With billows and blasts from choirs and orchesters
Buskers and talkers
Big bands and squawkers,
the Stork Club has retained its qualities of decaying elegance and dwindling significance since the late 1950s.

April 12, 2020: The Herbiethon
The Stork Club throws a birthday bash marathon for one of the greatest, most eclectic musicians of our time, Herbie Hancock. From his first Quintets through his years with Miles Davis, into his deep dive into worlds electronical (is too a word!), to his many collaborations within and without the realms of jazz, and back to acoustical climes - a musical meander back and forth and back and forth along the Herbie Time Continuum on the advent of his ninth decade among the mortals. The Stork Club goes full Herbie-vore today. No idea how long this thing is gonna stretch, but stop by the Club and stay a while. And then another while.

If there's anything positive about this time, I think my legs are stronger than they've been since about 1990 (time to dust off the weights and work on upper body a bit).

It's remarkable how easily the variety of Hancock's work can fill six hours. You could do the same with Beethoven and Bach--but not with the far more prolific Telemann, whose music I love--a handful of pop artists, and so forth. Not many musicians can endure scrutiny for a stretch like this.

Starred the show for future enjoyment.

As Dean said, there's so much Hancock, and so much DIFFERENT Hancock, that the hours have just flown by.

Ladies and gentlemen! For you listening pleasure and edification, one DJ, one performing artist/composer, how far can they go! Should we have alerted Guinness ? Hope you're keeping appropriately hydrated and nourished.

I'm thinking I first ran out to pick up one of his records after reading a review in Cadence decades ago. That's how and when.
