Favoriting Acid Jazz Hands with Bronwyn Bishop: Playlist from April 3, 2020 Favoriting

Bronwyn Bishop's avatar View Bronwyn Bishop's profile Favoriting

Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

my seen-it-in-previews was Urinetown; those days I was a big fan of Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind, seen it every weekend, and made friends with the cast, including Greg Kotis, author of Urinetown, so I saw it way way early (when the cast read it in script). Couldn't believe that Urinetown blew way up....

Oh, and saw Passing Strange in pre-Broadway, pre-cut.

that's it, though...

That's fine, feels live with an active playlist and chatboard!

For a while, scripts and backer opportunities would come our way because my father was involved with the Goodspeed Opera House when it started up and got "stuck" with 3/4 of a share of Man Of La Mancha, which paid grocery bills for a number of years! We saw LaMancha when it was at the ANTA Theatre.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm
Webhamster Henry:

I went to one backer's audition in the early 70s, when Jesus Christ Superstar was making the shows about religions kind of popular. This show was called Faith, not a particularly memorable show about a girl who was a faith healer. We had the script around for years, I don't know what happened to it.

@doctorjazz: i keep being like "oh no this song is about to end! oh wait i don't have to do anything"

I myself put money into an off-Broadway show that was kind of successful: "A... My Name Is Alice" There is an OST recording! Probably the best known original cast members are Randy Graff and Charlayne Woodward, but it also had/has a long regional theatre afterlife and a sequel,"A... My Name is Still Alice"

Is that really the Varèse Sarabande
release of Man On The Moon? It is obviously an audience recording, quite listenable, not complaining but surprised that only an audience recording was available to Varèse Sarabande. Ah your announcements explains. Too bad the show didn't get better treatment. I felt similar vibe as with Rocky Horror Picture Show.

That set starting with Cole Porter and Noel Coward and then with the "torch singers" was sublime. Very very much love it.
