I adopted that black-suit-white-shirt-skinny-black-tie look back in the late 70s. Quite fashionable, me and the Ska community and Paul Weller.

i'm Thankful i heard the Garvey's Ghost album first actually, before the Marcus Garvey album proper. without the context of the original songs it was first hilarious! - and second a dive into the adult area of the dub pool. (not the deep end, but...)

Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 3:28pm
chris:

i think you're probably spot-on there, coel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm
Phillippe Bastille:

I read you should not take ibuprofen for pain if you have a viral infection. In this particular case, the inflammation is helpful in killing off the virus. You are better off with acetaminophen (Tylenol). If you check the packaging on most of the cold and flu OTC meds, they have Tylenol or its generic as the pain reliever for that very reason.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm

Saw McCoy T 5/6 years ago, he looked a little infirm as he shuffled to the piano, barely played an hour. Guess he did have some credit in the bank to cover my disappointment.

Once Coltrane's genie was out of the bottle there was no stopping it. Can we thank Miles for that?

I used to segue from tea time to cocktail hour by putting Irish whiskey in my tea, those were the days. Now mostly avoid booze and limit caffeine to mornings.

After buying my first Coltrane album, I knew he would be there for the longest time. I was eighteen, what did I know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm
zzz:

@handsome johnny. i agree, I think he did have a decline in the past few yrs, don’t know if he was sick or what, but still always exciting to see him perform. one of them was at montreal jazz festival, which is always special, maybe 10 yrs ago
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm
Doug Schulkind:

One thing about later Coltrane. He had terrible dental problems, so every time he played his embouchure caused him considerable pain. Amazing to imagine him being in pain while creating this music. Maybe he started playing longer, more intense explorations in part to chase away the pain.
  5:41pm
Handsome Johnny:

David, this a monster set. Only on WFMU.
Avatar 🚂 5:42pm
Listening Out There:

@Doug: Playing the sax can mess up the teeth, owing to the reed's vibrations. A sax player in this area switched to guitar for years to get his teeth back in shape...

Avatar 6:14pm
TDK60:

Is it mostly a flat country?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm
David Dichelle:

Good question, we are where the country starts getting really flat heading north. Some hills begin just to the south of Leipzig and eventually give way to more proper mountains.

How did you wind up in Germany?

Improper mountains lay far to the west. Don't get caught hiking there after dark.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm

Now that's a really good question, Michael! My usual pat answer is that it's so long ago I forgot. But seriously, I came over as a student decades ago and life just happened.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm

TDK, that is correct - so many great musicians from a country of a few hundred thousand.

Gotta check the archives later David, Ich mit meiner Braut im Parlamentspark is a good enough reason for that!, I have never heard the german version of this song even if I know of the Auf Deutsch album. what a pity I missed M.A. Numminen's 80th birthday concert (Kultturitalo/Helsinki 12.3., i.e. last thursday), supposedly was good.
