I had the pleasure of taking an old upright from the 1890s apart when a friend bought an old house which had been renovated extensively by the previous owners of some 70 years. So extensively that the piano rooms' door frames, and indeed the rooms on either side of it, had been en-smallened to the point that a simple(!) roll out was out of the question. Learned a great deal about period industrial piano fabrication, and the daunting weight of a cast iron piano frame. To say nothing of the insane number of metal strings of all kinds, and the beautiful joinery of the tuning pegs, and thereby, the enduring mystery of fine tuning a piano.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm
fred:

I was wrong: pulling off a dance show with PDQ Bach would be too difficult. Slapstick would be easy but uninteresting. Something personal would be hijacked by the music. The most likely would be some wisecrack choreographer playing the critics with a dull piece hitting all the right notes. Only terrible outcomes. Please prove me wrong

Should we ever get a chance to meet in person, fred, you may be certain I will inquire about your cold status in advance:-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm
fred:

@Sem: doesn't seem likely (serious ear trouble makes it too dangerous for me to fly)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm
Irene Trudel:

Aww, I'm blushing! I should send you the whole e'fessioux set sometime, as well as their "parent" band, Monkeyworks. Talented guys from NJ that few know about.

I second that, RevRabb! One of the lovliest radio shows I've ever heard. (I hear her blushing again)

I'll be in the UK for the 3rd time in 3 years in April, getting across the Atlantic is becoming a habit. The prospect of a meet up is improved thereby.

Wolfgang:

This makes me think of John Cale, for some reason.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm
fred:

@Irene: you have a sound of your own, and I miss it. Though it went better with snow, which we're not getting here this year
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm
Irene Trudel:

@fred & Herr Wolfgang, thanks for the kind words!

Wolfgang:

Gut verdient, Irene. (well-earned)

@Sem: You're calling my bluff there (the ear thing is true though). I empty my bank account every year because that's what I want to do. Meeting people would be nice, but it doesn't come first

Sem:

Enjoying this in particular, and the afternoon in its entirety. Catch you during the Marathon, Stork and clubbers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm
Irene Trudel:

And thank you for the great music this afternoon. It's helping me accomplish my task of purging ancient bank statements and insurance forms from my messy office. Still haven't located our marriage certificate, no doubt in the VERY safe place I left it in (which was the original task of the afternoon). Might be time for a nap now...

Be well, Sem. See you back here on your customary stool. Bourbon, neat, amirite?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm

If there are no Pear William schnapps on offer...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm
fred:

I apologize in advance for not contributing to your marathon effort

Willimschristbirne? Love the stuff! I'll put your bottle aside for you, sir.

Ed Bickert is a criminally unknown jazz guitarist. Get s that tone from a Telecaster!

I do some work for these folks. I am spoiled:ironworksdistillery.com...

Oopsie! We ran overtime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm
Doug Schulkind:

@fred
You have contributed magnificently, once again, Sir. No apologies accepted!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm
Sem:

Bickert was a staple in jazz clubs here in Canada, saw him from the 70s on. Phil Nimmons, Moe Kaufman, that crowd.

Wolfgang:

Wow, great for you, Sem!

Okay, Doug, be mean.
