I hear you, John. Kate and I both fell hard for this show. I think it was desperation to listen on a day that the radio reception was really bad that first led us to listening online and, eventually, me to the boards.

Ahhh...yeah. We loft off at Ricky Jay. That man was a god...and charismatic as well. I saw a documentary wherein he discusses the history of magic and slight of hand and such. Riveting.

@djsheilab oh - did you see Phair at Irving Plaza earlier that year with Pavement and a few others? All I remember is that audience really wanted Pavement to be The Fall. And that Phair refused an encore, but came out on stage to tell everyone that she wasn't playing an encore.

I was kind of curious to see The Turning, but they didn't screen it for critics and I think it might already be out of theaters...

Yes, Ricky Jay was as much a scholar of magic as a master magician. He left one of the most impressive magic libraries. There's some good YouTube clips of him - shows, clips of individual tricks. I always liked him in Mamet films too. He had such a natural NYC card-shark vibe.

There's a great movie with Marianne Faithful in the lead - no, not the motorbike one - it's called Irina Palm. She plays an older sex worker - French crew - British movie. Brilliant.

Yes, that Marianne Faithfull is really chilling. I wonder if she sang any Brecht-Weill tunes?

@SheilaB, Kate would like to nominate Bjork's "All Is Full of Love" for the show in two weeks -- a song she used to cover with her jazz band to tremendous effect. I can testify.

Every set leaping even higher than that last! This show is really bringing it. I'm floored. I want to grab all of my friends and be like, "Stop worrying about eating or your families or your jobs -- listen to Sophisticated Boom Boom and make yourselves happier!"

I'll think of slightly chiller ways to spread the word. But SheilaB, tonight's show really something else!
