Hi Jeff and noisy syrup! Dry and warm here in California, southern parts.

The umbrella is the key.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm

Umbrellas are good for providing shade, too.

I agree they all flow together nicely, Drone

Mayuko will be back next week. Perhaps I might be around for the Marathon as co-host though.

jeff-m:

a classic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm
coelacanth∅:

it's pretty amazing the sensation this song was when it came out. i remember thinking this album was pointing in a direction that'd become the main style of music outside "mainstream" pop and dance music.

silly me.

happy birthday dog!
Avatar 1:01pm
jeff-m:

ha cheers - my mom just texted while i was on air wishing him a happy bday. Sweet little guy. Left him at home with the rain
Avatar 1:04pm
jeff-m:

i know what you mean Coel. I think i fell for the whole rock n roll is dead around the late 90's to some extent

something very strange and groundbreaking about that song to me though. The odd shifts in narration is one of them for sure
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm
coelacanth∅:

it was indeed groundbreaking -even if the ideas within had been done in some way before... for it all to be formed into a song that didn't fit neatly into any "genre" yet was still commercially viable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm
coelacanth∅:

it did seem like rock was dying quickly there -and i'd say but not for myself personally; but i went through a period of total lack of interest in any english language music (besides jamaican and louisiana patois) through much of the 1980s.
(revived partially by the pixies, partially by a very unlikely chance encounter with "smells like teen spirit"!)

Good day, everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm
Rich in Washington:

Glad to see that the playlist is behaving today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm
chresti:

Yeah, I was focused on Jamaican music, RnB, funk, older music, missing new music, except a few local LA bands, in the 80s
Avatar 1:24pm
jeff-m:

yeah, it was having issues last night
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm

Hi Rich!

Hi chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm
chresti:

I got an e-mail from SM Ken yesterday,( after sending a notice via the Stream Help link), saying they were having trouble with the Amazon server.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm
coelacanth∅:

hey Rich!

you too chresti? i didn't even care about r&b in that time. though i forgot, i listened to lots of old country blues, so -english language music after all.
  1:34pm
Rich in Washington:

Yes. it was a DoS attack on servers. it didn't affect the audio streams, just made the site intermittently unresponsive for both those reading comments and maintaining playlists.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm
chresti:

Mostly RnB from the 50s and 60s, -devil's music,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm
coelacanth∅:

i'm hearing a lot of what sounds like static clicks in one of my channels. maybe it's the record?
Avatar 1:37pm
jeff-m:

record :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm
chresti:

Now I'm catching up with 70s, 80's, 90s, music I missed on the first go-round
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm
Rich in Washington:

I love the seemingly KPM-inspired background color today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm
coelacanth∅:

i like the color too. it's almost exactly the color i have as background for duckduckgo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm
chresti:

What's KPM?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm
coelacanth∅:

right chresti i've been catching up a lot, especially over the past decade or so. there was so much good music made through every decade, it turns out! i'll be damned if the horribleness of 80s synthpop will ruin music for me!
Avatar 1:45pm
jeff-m:

not sure Chresti
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm
Rich in Washington:

KPM is a music library company from the 60s and 70s (in fact, I think they're still in business) that had this distinctive generic cover design for most of their records - an olive green background with the KPM logo.
The records are very collectible.

WFMU is a great place to hear new music, like this Chop Shop, for instance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm

Since the late 90s, I've mostly preferred instrumental music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm

Love this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm

Aha, KPM! Thanks Rich! I think Evan of Explorers Room may have had some KPM music on his show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm
listener james from westwood:

Instrumental, drone, ambient, noise, and similar music is great for editing and proofreading. Jazz too.

Thanks, Jeff!
