Mean tidal range here is 29 feet or 348 inches. A 4% increase would be an extra foot of tide, and then some. There goes my putting green.

Had the pleasure of a year's high tide in the Stewiacke River here. Out to the mouth of the river at low tide and then rode the incoming tide (there about forty feet), until we were Zodiac-ing into standing waves 6 feet high. Exhilarating. And yes, survival suits were mandatory.

Georgia tale:
A teenager I know was telling the class about Georgia, adjacent to Russia, where his father had gone for some work. Lad's public school teacher emphatically corrects him, tells him he's mistaken, there is no such Georgia in that part of the world. And she won't budge. Until boy's father contacts her, from Georgia, to lay the necessary correction on her, and perhaps tweak her awareness. This was in recent years, not long, long ago.

Avatar 10:29am still b/p:

Never would've been able to identify region or world zone of origin for Taiwan voices. Some vocal sounds/traditions become generally identifiable. Never heard that before, but it had interesting similarities to at least a FEW other native vocal music styles from far-flung locales.

Lyrics to "Illegal Cargo"

In the cool early hours before dawn, in one hour I must be gone
The airplane is waiting all loaded with Illegal Cargo
And I’ll count the minutes until I return here tomorrow
Keep a light burning for a heart that is yearning for the peace that you alone can bring.

Open your eyes Jacinta it’s time we were waking
I promise that this is the last run that I will be making
When the landing is made and the payoff is paid
We can begin our new life.

Now, my father he tilled the soil, and all of his days spent in toil
When we laid him away I vowed I would not die a poor man
I got a Gringo named Hartley to teach me to fly his airplane
Together we smuggled Illegal Cargo ‘cross the border to the U.S. of A.

Hartley’s in jail leaving his airplane behind
Now I alone fly through the mountains where their radar is blind
Then I touch down in a West Texas town
And the final connection is made.

Some fly for the danger that is there, some fly ‘cause they just do not care

I fly for the dollars the rich Yankee Gringos will pay me
To start a new life with my young wife, Jacinta beside me
If the law must be broken it’s the way I have chosen its’ simply a risk I must take
You call me a fool, you call me a smuggler and worse
Call me what you will as long as you open your purse
For the sweet smelling weed you all seem to need
Or the cocaine if you can afford it.

Autoharp alert! Autoharp alert! Autoharp alert!

Someone grab Webhamster Henry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am Doug Schulkind:

Youth, Listener Gregory? I think that's a typo. Try "mouth."
  11:27am Jeff g. via app:

This is transporting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am Funky16Corners:

There isn't enough autoharp in the world to satisfy me.
Avatar 11:28am Listener Gregory:

@Doug, no I'm referring to what you did when you were 16. You know what I mean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am Doug Schulkind:

Earl Durand was a real person. This is a true story.
  11:29am Gina B:

Thank you, Doug. That’s mighty nice of you to say. ❤️

Gripping insider account!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am Doug Schulkind:

I am trying to conjur the image of the otherworldly pile of autoharps that could satisfy Funky16Corners.

Nope.

Can't do it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am Funky16Corners:

I used to own one, though I can't really say I "played" it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am Doug Schulkind:

"Play" is always a bit of an overstatement when referring to making sounds with an autoharp.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:33am Brian in UK:

Brian's taxi is require so must cut and run, have a great weekend everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Funky16Corners:

It's a harsh mistress. Not everyone is "Mother Maybelle good".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am Uncle Michael:

I'm not even "Ed Sanders" good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am Doug Schulkind:

Mother Maybelle & Ed Sanders, live at Budokan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Funky16Corners:

With John Sebastian sitting in...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:39am dutchtheo:

Or Washington Phillips good, or was 't that an autoharp
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Uncle Michael:

It's either zither that.
Avatar 11:41am still b/p:

Fifty combined autoharp ensembles from schools around the country pounding out ELO's Fire On High for Super Bowl halftime. Ohhh, that'd be gooood.
  11:42am Marie:

Hey D., and all, digging the show--unfortunately, gotta work, and have to pay attention to such a degree that I have to turn to less engaging music :>( --have a great weekend!
  11:43am rw:

Good morning! So fucking amazing I can't even say. Thanks Doug (and UM and F16C, etc. etc.) for what you all bring.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am Doug Schulkind:

A half an ear is better than a quarter, Marie! (And it's a lot less messy.)
Avatar 11:47am Listener Gregory:

I'm not sure I understand the David Olney connection here. Did he write all these songs? (I'm not familiar with him.)
  11:49am jessie:

okay this is making me think about the bus between NO and Baton Rouge.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am Doug Schulkind:

The pleasure is mine, rw, all mine. Hahaha! [evil clown laugh]

@Listener Gregory
No other connection but these are all gentlemen performing in the troubadour/storyteller style inhabited so iconically by David Olney.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am Webhamster Henry:

I was on the phone so I have no autoharp critiques for you.
Avatar 11:51am Listener Gregory:

@Doug, thanks. I will check him out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Doug Schulkind:

@Jessie
Hope I'm sitting next to you, darling. We'll both have a private smirk as we traverse the Pontchartrain Causeway.

Feeling feelings. Damn you, Schulkind.
