“Around 2002-03, David Bowie was on tour and he played my city. I had an acquaintance from da klubb who had cancer... 22 year old girl. Her cancer was so bad that tumors made it impossible for her to walk and she was in the hospital permanently when he came through. She left the hospital to see the show and she was the only person he let backstage. She was ecstatic. She immediately went back to the sterile cold hospital to deal with real life again... and the very next day he shows up unannounced to bring a little bit of happiness to her.
I hope he got all the support that he gave. It's not easy being around sick people, and he didn't have to. The world needs more people like him."
——————————————————————
"I've heard my dad talk about David Bowie most of my life.
When my dad was younger he was a cabbie in London, he once picked up David and got talking to him. After that trip he offered my dad a temp job as his chauffeur until his american one came back (about 6 months down the line). My dad said that David was the nicest guy, he would entrust my dad with loads of personal secrets and talk to him like he was a mate. My dad wasn't keen on his wife though, apparently she used to click her fingers at him and call him "chauffeur" rather than his name. There is one story that always sticks out for me, one night David gave my dad a call and said he wanted to go for a drive, so my dad picked him up and david directed him to a warehouse, he asked my dad to come in with him. My dad walked in with him only to find out the warehouse was empty, David asked my dad to get to the other end and the played frisbee for about 2 hours in this massive warehouse.
My dad was genuinely upset this morning after hearing the news. David was a class guy, and I have nothing the the upmost respect for him. RIP. “"

Hundreds of farms were condemned & over 4500 people in 19 towns lost everything. From 1907 – 1967 their homes & farms were forcibly taken to create the NYC water supply system. We’re re-creating a farm to honor those people. We located, acquired, disassembled, moved and recently reassembled an 1890’s mortise & tenon barn. The barn still…
