Google translation of this song "Conformópolis":

The city wakes up and goes to work
In the same routine, in the same place
She then agrees that she has to stop
She doesn't disagree that she has to change
But she remembers that she has to fight
Driving crowded, tight, standing
The city goes down in Largo da Sé
Mechanically she shows faith
In the vicinity of any day
And in Liberty she has a coffee
Office, boss, the card to tag
The skinny sandwich swallowed in a bar
She then wakes up, she tries to scream
Against what squeezes you and makes you shut up
But she desert begins to cry

hello!
Avatar 9:25am Wolfgang:

Learning German, I realized that almost all languages other than English apply a gender to nouns. In Spanish (and Portugese and German, at least), city is feminine, so this translation may just be reflecting the female gender of "city," but it works to great poetic effect, besides.

Anyone have insight into the jew's harp/jaw harp terminology? Is "jew" just a corruption of "jaw" or does it actually have something to do with Jews?

  9:40am bigplanetnoise:

Good morning, Tuesday-kind-of-Friday Drummer folks....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am Uncle Michael:

Hey hey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am Webhamster Henry:

@L. GregorY Here's the Wikipedic take on etymology:

There are many theories for the origin of the name Jew's harp. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, this name appears earliest in Walter Raleigh's Discouerie Guiana in 1596, spelled "Iewes Harp". The "jaw" variant is attested at least as early as 1774[7] and 1809,[8] the "juice" variant appeared only in the late 19th and 20th centuries.

It has also been suggested that the name derives from the French "Jeu-trompe" meaning "toy-trumpet".[9] (Though in the French idiom, if two substantives are joined together, the qualifying noun is invariably the last.)[10]

Both theories—that the name is a corruption of "jaws" or "jeu"—are described by the OED as "baseless and inept". The OED says that, "More or less satisfactory reasons may be conjectured: e.g. that the instrument was actually made, sold, or imported to England by Jews, or purported to be so; or that it was attributed to them, as a good commercial name, suggesting the trumps and harps mentioned in the Bible."[11]
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am Doug Schulkind:

I'm going with "juice trumpet." Surely one gets covered with saliva if one plays the instrument with any seriousness.
Avatar 9:45am Listener Gregory:

Thanks, @WHenry. I was actually perusing the OED, until I read that some derivations are baseless and inept, and that hit too close too home, so I stopped.
But must also quote Walter Raleigh (1596), "Wee should send them Jewes harpes: for they would give for every one two Hennes."

Uncle Michael...ahem...product placement...shame....etc....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am Doug Schulkind:

I insist that Uncle Michael announce his upcoming show in this space. If he didn't, I would cut his salary in half.
  11:37am Ike:

@Jeff, you will probably see me in the kitchen at some point brewing jasmine green tea. There are other FMU volunteers working on this floor too.

Banishment. That's what I say. "He should have been taken out a long time ago..." :)

One-handed scrolling during Bandumba Sex! We've all been there, Doug.
  11:38am Marie:

Doug's got music on his mind all the time. Could this be the beginning of a haiku?
  11:39am Ike:

@LG@11:12, Sarah Vaughan definitely. Wayne Shorter, not sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am Doug Schulkind:

@Listener Gregory
I like playing my French horn while scrolling during Bandumba sex.

@Marie
I am never not thinking about music. Even when I'm not thinking about music, I'm thinking about music.

Is there a sign or plaque at the precipice to the Grachan Moncur Room? If so, would you mind taking a snap and sending?

@Phillippe Bastille
So very happy to do it!

Remember, Spindleshanks, never put anything in your ear that's smaller than your elbow.
