I have done so much meaningful grading, reading, commentary that I dream about it. BUT I finished all of that yesterday, so today is a day of celebration. I’ve been so focused on the immediate, that when one of my students asked, “what do you think about the end of the decade?” I said, “Holy Crap! The decade IS ending!” 2010-2019 What has it been like for you?

	6:18am The Butterman: Daybreak, as the art teacher, almost all normal teacher shit is off the table. Yesterday was spent playing old timey, claw hammer banjo where I went from terrible and timid to playing in the hallway as loud as possible while hootin’ and hollerin’ at the top of my lungs as a few hundred seniors were waiting to get into the auditorium. Playin banjer,hootin, hollerin’ , laughing hysterically at the top of my lungs…that’s what it’s like for me!

As an English teacher I mainly talk about like in the weirdest strangest way possible while throwing all the BS-decorum out the window, but still end up spending most of the day laughing. The time with those 9th-12th graders is mostly fantastic. It is what happens between classes that can get seriously unwieldy! But Frack it! We made it to the Friday before a big break! I hope it is gonna be a great one for ya Butterman!!!

Fight the Power...

Morphé: I’m doing so much rhetoric work now with my 11th graders that when I teach Macbeth rather than teaching the straight up play, instead I teach: Given Shakespeare’s environment, why did he structure everything about the play, and everything about how the characters move and interact to shift the blame of the play onto one of the characters? What was there for him to gain and how can you prove that he is purposely manipulating his audience to come to that conclusion? I am so much happier to read those, they spout all kinds of theories, but are generally very well proven and often very unexpected.

Yesterday was spent playing old timey, claw hammer banjo where I went from terrible and timid to playing in the hallway as loud as possible while hootin’ and hollerin’ at the top of my lungs as a few hundred seniors were waiting to get into the auditorium. Playin banjer,hootin, hollerin’ , laughing hysterically at the top of my lungs…that’s what it’s like for me!

As an English teacher I mainly talk about like in the weirdest strangest way possible while throwing all the BS-decorum out the window, but still end up spending most of the day laughing. The time with those 9th-12th graders is mostly fantastic. It is what happens between classes that can get seriously unwieldy! But Frack it! We made it to the Friday before a big break! I hope it is gonna be a great one for ya Butterman!!!

Morphé: I’m doing so much rhetoric work now with my 11th graders that when I teach Macbeth rather than teaching the straight up play, instead I teach: Given Shakespeare’s environment, why did he structure everything about the play, and everything about how the characters move and interact to shift the blame of the play onto one of the characters? What was there for him to gain and how can you prove that he is purposely manipulating his audience to come to that conclusion? I am so much happier to read those, they spout all kinds of theories, but are generally very well proven and often very unexpected.
