Dr. Jazz, my amplifier has a USB port on the back and there's a plug you can get which plugs into my (Apple) laptop. My laptop is a few years old, and the newer ones don't have the same input port on them, but my son assures me there's an adapter you can get. I think if you visit any audio store or computer store and tell them what you want to do, they can figure something out for you.

@Mark R-my PC is in a different room (have an old bulky laptop I hardly use, but my music is either on the PC it's external hard drives. I could just connect a portable hard drive to my preamp (which does have a USB connector-a frienddoes this), but you them need a screen to see what you're doing. Streaming to the Slingbox used to work, using an internet connected external drive, but that drive died, and the PC currently doesn't have streaming capability (as far as I can tell).
