Hi MFW.

Hey, you guys! What a week.

ahoy there! permission to come aboard the good ship Fine Wine?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm
Mr. Fine Wine:

It's a leaky vessel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm
coelacanth∅:

greetings Mr.Fine Wine and fine winos
Avatar 🍷 Swag For Life Member 8:12pm
JtotheK:

And agreed - what a week. Sit down for this -- but I found a very desirable 45. A cover of Clarence Carter's "Strokin'" by Bobby Marchan. On the Manicure Records label. How did I not know about this before???
Avatar 🍷 Swag For Life Member 8:13pm
chresti:

The Brochures!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I assumed Art Rupe had passed but he just turned 102 in September
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Jason 7” or 12” for Strokin?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17pm
ultradamno:

How could My Inlaws Are Outlaws not have become a movie title? Like a sequel to Mr. & Mrs. Smith, maybe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm
Mr. Fine Wine:

Haha. Art Rupe is giving Kirk Douglas a run for his money.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm
Mr. Fine Wine:

Didn't know the Bobby Marchan, but manicure seems like a fitting label for him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm
Matt from New Orleans:

The only Manicure Records release I have is a cassette of MC Wiz called Hit the Bridge. It’s a New Orleans rap tape trying to get in on the Bronx Queens “Bridge feud” but I doubt anyone in NY ever heard it.
Avatar 🍷 Swag For Life Member 8:21pm
JtotheK:

@Matt - I feel like I'm walking into a joke there ... ha ha. But it's the 45, pt 1 side A pt 2 the flip.
Avatar 🍷 Swag For Life Member 8:21pm
JtotheK:

Dig that Big Maybelle 45!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm
Matt from New Orleans:

No joke Jason. Bobby owned Manicure and put it out in both formats. The 12” is just the full version on both sides.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
Mr. Fine Wine:

12" for strokin' sounds like a handful.
Avatar 🍷 Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
JtotheK:

*Also "very desirable" applies to very few people. Me, and the single biggest supporter of "Strokin'" at WFMU - SM Ken. I'm hoping I can get him MP3 files of the track and lobby for WFMU airplay.
Avatar 🍷 Swag For Life Member 8:25pm
JtotheK:

Possibly more than 1 handful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Good for the clubs if you’re trying to keep the break going and going
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I’ve seen some other manicure releases in shops here. He released a 12” EP in 94 called Bobby’s Back. Based on the record, I’m not completely convinced.
Avatar 🍷 Swag For Life Member 8:29pm
JtotheK:

Matt - is the Hit the Bridge record an answer to MC Shan? I'm w-a-a-a-y behind on rap 12" singles (I like when I hear disco-rap on Billy Jam show) and periodically consult Freddy Fresh 'Rap Records' book and then realize good grief what am I getting myself into. (More records, I mean.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Oddly and indirectly
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm
Mr. Fine Wine:

Matt from New Orleans striving not to get dragged down into the bad-joke mud puddle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Exactly I was just playing it straight
Avatar 🍷 Swag For Life Member 8:32pm
JtotheK:

The Big Dipper? What other constellation-themed soul 45s are there? (And why not on Constellation Records?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I certainly got my quarter’s worth from it. I couldn’t resist at the thrift store. It was so bootleg looking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm
Mr. Fine Wine:

I don't think most people can name more constellations than the Big Dipper and the Little Dipper.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm
Mr. Fine Wine:

The proto-funk drumming on this Sensations record kills me every time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Orion’s Belt
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm
Mr. Fine Wine:

Yeah, that one I can name too, but that's about the extent of it.
Avatar 🍷 Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
JtotheK:

And does Cannonball Adderley / Rick Holmes 'Soul Zodiac' album qualify? (I like that record.)
Avatar 🍷 Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
chresti:

Shotgun! Kinda.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm
Mr. Fine Wine:

Yes, I hear Shotgun too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm
ultradamno:

Caller ID says Gary, IN is calling me right now. I am not picking up.
Avatar 🍷 Swag For Life Member 8:39pm
DP:

I used to swear that one of the lines in Shotgun was "Do the Jack Benny"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm
Matt from New Orleans:

The southern cross which totally ruined an already terrible movie for me. My college buddy Brad who’s now an executive in Hollywood had PAed on 7 Years in Tibet which was shot in the Andes and he dragged a bunch of us to see it when it came out and early on there’s a night scene looking up at the sky and I see the southern cross and my disbelief was shattered.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm
Matt from New Orleans:

No one else knew anything about constellations so that had no effect on them but they all still hated it as well. I truly felt like I spent seven years in that theater.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm
ultradamno:

If quizzed just started naming astrological signs. They're all up there.
Avatar 🍷 Swag For Life Member 8:42pm
DP:

Seven League Boots
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm
Little Danny:

Late hellos MrF and all
Avatar 🍷 Swag For Life Member 8:44pm
JtotheK:

Seven Years in Tibet ... I don't remember if I've seen that. I did see Kundun (in the theatre!), the 1997 Marty Scorsese Dalai Lama film.
Avatar 🍷 Swag For Life Member 8:46pm
JtotheK:

Lady Margo ... this 45 is familiar - perhaps I only ever listened to the flip (Got Just the Thing) -- b/w -- Hi Danny!
  8:46pm
Damon portillo:

Damn that lady Margo 45! The heat! Shout out from Flagstaff AZ
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49pm
Mr. Fine Wine:

Heyo, Damon. Matt: I had a similar experience with The Irishman when they were supposed to be in Detroit and they kept showing a bridge that looks like no structure within hundreds of miles of Detroit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Bobby Womack was all up in this Gene Taylor
Avatar 🍷 Swag For Life Member 8:50pm
JtotheK:

I am looking forward to the Irishman. I read "I Heard You Paint Houses" in anticipation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm
ultradamno:

One I've brought up before is The Oh In Ohio where Parker Posey and Danny Devito are up on a hill looking down on Terminal Tower and the TV show Angel where they end up in Muncie and spend the whole show driving up steep Hollywood hills.
  8:54pm
BH:

I'm not sure if enough movies have been set in KC but filmed elsewhere for me to find any obvious mistakes. "Planes, Trains, Automobiles" but the Missouri license plates correct, for example.

I do remember some late 90s movie remake (House on Haunted Hill?) that ends with the Sun *rising* over the Pacific Ocean. Which... yeah.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Thanks MFW. Another top notch hour.
Avatar 🍷 Swag For Life Member 8:56pm
JtotheK:

This is a nice Mandells track. 'Think Back' is a personal favorite.
  8:56pm
JakeGould:

I hear there’s a Smiley Lewis track in “The Irishman.”
  8:57pm
JakeGould:

Specifically, “I Hear You Knocking.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm
Mr. Fine Wine:

I found the soundtrack highly disappointing.
Avatar 🍷 Swag For Life Member 8:57pm
JtotheK:

Agree with Matt from NO -- thanks Mr. Fine Wine, enjoyed the show - and enjoyed the chatter with everyone this evening!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm
Michael 98145:

thank you again
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm
Mr. Fine Wine:

Thanks, everybody!
  8:58pm
JakeGould:

I have no desire to see a 3 hour movie with CGI “de-aging” nonsense. I’m mobbed out on Scorsese. He should make more films about people lost in SoHo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm
Mr. Fine Wine:

DP, I get Seven League Boots mixed up with Chinese Brothers...
Avatar 🍷 Swag For Life Member 8:59pm
chresti:

All the way great show, thanks Mr. FW!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm
ultradamno:

...or kids hanging out in clocks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01pm
Mr. Fine Wine:

Is You're the One for Me Bobby a stealth RFK campaign song? Came out in '68. I'm trying to figure it out. Is that why it's so hard to find?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01pm
coelacanth∅:

Thanks FW
  3:43pm
MJ in Vegas:

Awesome show! That Maybelle song is great.
