Here in New Orleans you get carded for buying any tobacco/nicotine products or booze, regardless of age. They have to scan your license or ID at the register. Far cry from when I was a teenager, buying cigarettes and bourbon willy-nilly!

@Rev. Turnip Druid - For real- They performed with both such sustained rigor and an endlessly exploratory sensibility - I last heard them play at a Hindu temple in suburban Chicago which arranged for them to perform a few years back. They always made such great effort to ensure the perfect tuning of their tamburas on stage, obtaining maximum clarity and resonance. A crystalline foundation.

oh they were talking about the switch here for over a year. then the annoying outgoing message for the pharmacy was changed to one 3X more annoying, but fairly comic! i recorded it. then it changed last week to totally disfunctional. i don't know why i didn't stop doing business with rite aid long ago anyway; but it suddenly became necessary when it became walgreens.

@listenerPhillip you might do better with a small pharmacy. My friend (with a lot of health issues) here in Brooklyn had one and the pharmacist was able to flag prescriptions that wouldn't work together or to advise him how to take them so they did their job. Sadly, that guy decided to retire and overnight his shop closed and all prescriptions transferred to the local Rite Aid.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm
coelacanth∅))):

Tony (@3.58) i thought it might sound like i'm saying walgreens is much worse, but you're right they're both big corporations. of course.
it's just my experience (& that of others i know) that walgreens is much more impersonal in general; and my immediate experience when the local one changed over is that refilling a script involves more bullshit on the phone..more information required; and no shortcuts -and it can't be done except during the hours the pharmacy is open; whereas rite aid's system let me call it in at any time and they'd get it and fill it first thing in the morning. obviously walgreen's can do that too, but they choose not to.
(also their outgoing recorded message is so patronizing, with the faux-caring voice, it's offensive! -though that wouldn't be a reason to dis them)

So embarrassing, but I met Michael Gira once, didn't know it was him. Was at a rooftop 4th of July party, and we struck up a conversation. When he said he was a musician, I was like "Yeah? Me too - we should totally get together for a jam sometime!" Then he mentioned he was in Swans, and I felt donkey ears growing out of my head.

@Coelacanth: OK so you are not saying Walgreens are more evil, but just more of a pain to deal with? I used Walgreens pharmacy at one point and found their customer service pretty bad. So I switched to Target, who seemed much better. But then the Target pharmacy became CVS.

@Ochre: Ooh, I haven't seen Papillon in years, was one of my favorites when I was a kid, thanks for the reminder!
