Looking for some good vibes? You've come to the right place. Welcome!
Avatar 9:02am doncaballero:

Morning Doug! Looking forward to warming up this AM with a little Drummer Radio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am Gina Bacon:

I am always looking for some good vibes!! Happy Friday!!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:02am dutchtheo:

vibe'o'clock, Hey Doug & drummers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03am Sem:

Without the Drummer stream, I would never had been infected with the ear worm lyric "Sal, let me chaw your rosin some."
This is why I can never leave, always in the hope that the antidote worm will surface. Good morning, Doug, and hello, all, lurking or arriving.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05am Webhamster Henry:

All the GTDS studios need letter names!
Avatar 🥁 9:05am duke:

Picking up those good vibes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06am Sem:

So, we'll all be vibe-raters? I'm all in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06am Webhamster Henry:

I like the vibes - I'm a glockenspieler myself. Let's not examine Lionel Hampton's political views, just listen to his vibrations.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am Doug Schulkind:

Lovely to see you all! Welcome welcome, Webhamster Henry! Sem! duke! dutchtheo! Gina Bacon! doncaballero!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am Doug Schulkind:

@Sem
Put your ear up close to your speaker. I will try to coax him out. If that doesn't work, I'll send down a few friends to keep him company.
  9:09am John from Florham park:

The drummer stream is one of the reasons why I listen to WFMU, the news SUCKS
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:09am Brian in UK:

Hello Doug and other fixaters.
Make mine a marimba, a kind of rum based cocktail.
  9:09am bigplanetnoise:

Good morning! Is there coffee served with these good vibes, I hope?!?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:11am Brian in UK:

Paper and comb, groovy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am Webhamster Henry:

Ah, the soothing timbre of a Mirliton.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12am Doug Schulkind:

Happy to provide some respite from real life, John from Florham Park.

The fix is in, Brian in UK!

All we've got are triple espressos, bigplanetnoise! Have two!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14am Gina Bacon:

Don't love vibes, you say? How is that possible? They're so loveable!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14am Gina Bacon:

I love your gif, btw
<-----
  9:15am bigplanetnoise:

I deliberately have vibes all around my house and property.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16am Doug Schulkind:

I love vibes, Gina. I just don't love love love them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16am Doug Schulkind:

Glad you love the gif. I'm rather proud of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am Gina Bacon:

Ok, now I feel better. And that's a lotta vibes, bigplanetnoise!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am Gina Bacon:

On clear days, I hear you can see them from space!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am Doug Schulkind:

So what you're saying, bigplanetnoise, is you have no absence of mallets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am Ken From Hyde Park:

I notice that certain vibes really resonate with me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am Webhamster Henry:

I have a few Zonophone disks, but not ethnic ones like this.
  9:24am bigplanetnoise:

Wigeons, Teals, Mallets... they’re all tasty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am Doug Schulkind:

With that comment, you get to sit right up front, Ken From Hyde Park.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am Sem:

Saw an interview w/ Ruth Underwood one time, she was talking about working with Zappa. She illustrated her point of complexity and time signatures by playing a section of something she had recorded with him. Incredible to watch something seemingly impossible being played. No words.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am Webhamster Henry:

Vibes: all I can say is "Ruth Underwood"
  9:27am John from Florham park:

Speaking of Frank Zappa wonder how he would dig this station and the internet streams
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am Webhamster Henry:

@Sem I saw that too - she apologized for missing a few notes after not playing it for a decade...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am Ken From Hyde Park:

Wow, cool! With any luck, I'll be seated next to Bob Uecker!
Avatar 9:30am Flash Strap:

Good morning Doug and Drummers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am listener Rey:

I'm feeling the vibes, Doug. I don't know what that guy in the gif is feeling, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am Sem:

@Webhamster Henry: yeah, I remember that clearly. Self-deprecating, beautiful to hear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am Doug Schulkind:

Brother Flash Strap! What a miraculously wonderful Explorers Room you gifted us with last evening!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am Doug Schulkind:

@listener Rey
I think his inner demons are in control. But they seem very musical.
Avatar 9:36am Flash Strap:

Somethin' miraculous happening here as well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am Doug Schulkind:

I'm pedaling as fast as I can, Flash Strap.
Avatar 9:39am Flash Strap:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am Doug Schulkind:

You ain't lyin', Flash Strap.
Avatar 9:43am Flash Strap:

I've never heard this Diablos Rojos, it's great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am Doug Schulkind:

This Peruvian music is so... shroomy.
Avatar 9:45am fleep:

Wiggly giggly greetings
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am Doug Schulkind:

Beep beep, outta the way! It's fleep!
  9:46am bigplanetnoise:

I’m calling my next comedy team “Shrooms & Vibes”.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am Doug Schulkind:

Later, they'll change their name to Cheech & Chong.
Avatar 🥁 9:48am bobdc:

Or Shroom and Vibes could be the Morning Zoo show on the Give the Drummer Some stream. "Wake up with Shroom and Vibes!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am Gina Bacon:

Hahaha!
Avatar 🥁 9:49am bobdc:

Of course, on Friday, Doug is our Morning Zoo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Doug Schulkind:

Love it! My talent scouts will scour the globe until those two are found.
Avatar 🥁 9:50am bobdc:

(weird typo: of course that was supposed to be "Doug," not "Dough.")
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am Dominick:

Adolph Hitler on vibes
Avatar 9:57am Flash Strap:

excited for this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am listener Rey:

I'm all in on the vibes. Cal Tjader was a huge influence on my musical tastes.
Avatar 🥁 9:58am bobdc:

listener Rey beat me to it: I was going to recommend Tjader's "Soul Sauce" album in particular.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am Doug Schulkind:

Benny Goodman on bass clarinet here!

Hello, Dominick! Goodbye, Adolph!
Avatar 9:58am Listener Gregory:

Doug, I think your issue with vibes is widespread. I've read a few times that Bobby Hutcherson would have been one of the biggest jazz stars if only he had played a different instrument, for example.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:58am Brian in UK:

Mr McVibes would request McVibes & Schroom.
Avatar 9:58am Listener Gregory:

Also, good morning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am Doug Schulkind:

@bobdc
I corrected the typo. It happens all the time. I am surround by dough. Not!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am Gina Bacon:

Octopus one man band: youtu.be...
Avatar 9:59am Flash Strap:

This Norvo is perfect
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am Dominick:

Not to split hairs, I'm loving this Red Norvo, but isn't this a marimba?
Avatar 🥁 10:00am bobdc:

Glad to hear you corrected it, because after you did I thought I had hallucinated the typo. Too much Shroom, not enough Vibes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am Doug Schulkind:

@Listener Gregory
I will make amends with Mr. Hutcherson soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am Doug Schulkind:

@Dominick
I am a rule breaker. Especially my own.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am listener Rey:

If ya dig the vibes, Larry Grogan on Testify! did an excellent show few weeks back that featured Vibes and Hammond B3. Check the archives
Avatar 10:03am Flash Strap:

oh hell yes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am Doug Schulkind:

Mr. Hutcherson on vibes here.

@listener Rey
I think that Testify! planted the seed. Wasn't thinking about that directly, but I probably owe Larry some credit.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:10am JtotheK:

Missed out on the Lionel Hampton, but back for Out to Lunch. A popular lp at our household is his 'Saturday Night Jazz Fever' cover of said disco tunes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Doug Schulkind:

Sun Ra here—with Walt Dickerson—on HARPSICHORD.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Doug Schulkind:

Hey hey, JtotheK!
  10:15am joe schmoe:

My, this is a very specific sound! diggin it though... I just pray you don't do an all-banjo show...
Avatar 10:16am Listener Gregory:

Banjo-vibes duos are very good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am Doug Schulkind:

@joe schmoe
You've thrown down the gauntlet, Sir. Meet me on the radio at dawn.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:17am Brian in UK:

O'Linga one of my favourite Irish tunes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am Jeff Golick:

Celeste we forget, Fridays on the Drummer stream is where it's at.
  10:19am joe schmoe:

HAHAHA... If banjo vibes duets exist, me and my masochistic tendencies will stay tuned here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am Doug Schulkind:

Khan Jamal in duet with trumpeter Clint Jackson. Mr. Jackson is the composer of this song. Called Clint. It is semi-autobiographical.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:22am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

kaPOW! hello, Doug and everyone!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:22am dutchtheo:

Yeah, Give The Vibraphonist Some
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am Doug Schulkind:

@dutchtheo
That is the name of this record, in fact!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Doug Schulkind:

Good day, hooray, Granny Spicy Tuna!
  10:25am Mark R:

Give the trumpet some, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Doug Schulkind:

Howdy, Mark R!
  10:25am John from Florham park:

Hello granny
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Jeff Golick:

Milt Jackson on Impulse seems weird.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am Phillippe Bastille:

Good morning everyone! Finally got my lazy butt into gear.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:29am dutchtheo:

Yes Doug that's where i took it from, Mark R, as you say, that trumpet!
  10:29am Alex In Illinois:

What about percussion? Maybe insects have been making percussion sounds before hominds could sing?
  10:30am Mr C:

That was a crazy good set..
Avatar 10:31am Listener Gregory:

Interesting that Norvo, Hampton, and Dolphy were all associated with Mingus. Or not.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:32am Brian in UK:

@Alex, ants might be the prog rock players of the insect world. Very organised but not a lot to say.
Avatar 🥁 10:32am bobdc:

To follow up a bit on Alex in Illinois: instead of comparing the vibes to the human voice, comparing it to the drums might give better perspective--it's a percussion instrument, complete with special sticks to hit the thing. Give the vibes player some!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am Webhamster Henry:

Shelly was the mom, Elizabeth Hartman was the kid. en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:35am Brian in UK:

Vee-ent-e-n. Perhaps.
Avatar 10:35am Listener Gregory:

I had the experience of hearing Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald singing "Ode to Billie Joe" on a Sinatra TV special last week (on DVD). Still trying to recover.
  10:38am Gina B:

Yay! Thanks, Doug!
  10:40am John from Florham park:

Howdy phillippe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am Doug Schulkind:

Greetings, Phillippe Bastille! Groovings, Alex in Illinois!

And Crazy Mr C!
Avatar 10:41am Listener Gregory:

I happened to hear a couple of vibes concerts in the past year, and I think that if you hear the instrument in person, you get more of the richness of the sound and dynamic range than often comes across in recordings, Doug.
  10:42am davefromtoronto:

this brings to mind "george fell into his french horn"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am Doug Schulkind:

Glad to see you, davefromtoronto!

@Listener Gregory
Maybe vibes have just been poorly miked all this time. It's a reasonable theory.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:49am doctorjazz:

Hi, happy Friday!
  10:49am davefromtoronto:

thanks doug - great to be "hear"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am Doug Schulkind:

doctorjazz, the smooth operator!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am WR:

WFMU punctuates my week with Monday and Friday/ Saturday programming. The rest of the week is a blur of work. Am I way too late to try to make good vibes ironic remarks? Ah, Jeanne Lee. Beautiful soul expressed via vocals. Hi all
Avatar 10:54am Listener Gregory:

Must bug out for a meeting. Keep the good vibes coming.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am Doug Schulkind:

Oh how I adore Jeanne Lee. Hi, blurry WR!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:57am doctorjazz:

Never too late for an ironic remark, good vibes out otherwise (I do the vibe cracks on Little Danny's show, though!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am Doug Schulkind:

Meet swiftly, meet safely, Listener Gregory.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:01am Brian in UK:

Vibraphones and harps have a similar feel to them. Ethereal, perhaps is the word. There again...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am Doug Schulkind:

@Brian in UK
I came close to including a Dorothy Ashby (harp) track including Terry Pollard on vibes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am Jeff Golick:

Great energy on this Chico Freeman.
  11:05am John from Florham park:

@Davefromtoronto nice to see you back
@WR this station keeps me sane in a insane world
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am Doug Schulkind:

@Jeff Golick
It took all my strength not to play the title track. But since that tune really features the balaphone, I decided against it. With a heavy heart.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am Jeff Golick:

Spielplatz No. 466 isn't really that great. Good call.
Avatar 11:12am burke:

This must be the Berkeley sister? May the constitution of Nicaragua endure!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am Doug Schulkind:

That exact sister!

@Jeff Golick
Glad we're on the same page.
  11:22am Marie:

I LURVE Doug's African sets! Hello Doug and fellow listeners.
  11:23am Alex in Illinois:

@Brian in UK, if I repeat that about ants, I'll credit you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am WR:

Ok, two meetings down, one meeting to go, let's see where are we now. Vibes out, African guitars in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am Doug Schulkind:

The pleasure is mine, Marie! So happy you dig it!

Put me on the speaker phone and ask everyone to do the boogaloo. After cover the accounts receivables for the third quarter, of course.

@UM gotcha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am Uncle Michael:

So it's best if nobody misses my show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Doug Schulkind:

Firing Uncle Michael would be like firing my left kidney.
  11:41am Marie:

Hee hee hee
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am Uncle Michael:

Notice he didn't compare me to his liver. He has two kidneys. I'm expendable.
  11:42am Alex In Illinois:

I have heard a juke boxed called a "record machine" only in songs where it is rhymed with "seventeen".
Avatar 11:42am Listening Out There:

You know, you can actually live just fine with only one kidney. That's why we have two...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am Uncle Michael:

I'm not even sure his left is his favorite kidney.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am Dominick:

Very '67 Warners' thing happening here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am Uncle Michael:

Yeah, Dom. I'd like to know who produced that record.
