Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am Doug Schulkind:

WFMU currently sits at 55% of its goal (which is $300,000). We desperately need this money to keep the lights on and the transmitter humming.

The truth is, we will keep moving forward no matter what, but if we have to borrow to pay the bills, we will. Then, we will have to use pledge dollars to pay off the debt. This is a horrible circumstance we want to avoid at all costs.

Gosh darn it, PLEDGE! pledge.wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am Doug Schulkind:

Like Nina Simone, Carmen McRae was also a superb pianist.
  10:58am Listener Gregory:

Had to rake leaves for the first 1.5 hours of the show, but I'm here now, so please behave.

Avatar 11:01am northguineahills:

Here's a podcast w/ Barry Gilder (white ANC folk singer/revolutionary in the bush of Angola/Botswana during Apartheid), who I'd consider SA's Victor Jara, song-wise. The podcast is academic in tone and covers all things African: history, culture, and politics: afripod.aodl.org...

Avatar 11:26am Listener Gregory:

Doug, for your own mental health, I think you need to meet up with Ken Burns, give him a big hug, and say, "I forgive you." You'll both feel so much better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am Doug Schulkind:

@Jeff Golick
Oh cool. Thanks for that link. I will go pay my respects.

@Listener Gregory
I'd be up for that. I kinda of regret the vitriol I have spewed about Burns over the years. But by got is his work largely shitty.
Avatar 11:29am Listener Gregory:

I think that, with therapy, you can get over it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am Doug Schulkind:

Reminds me of a recent New Yorker cartoon, a dog at a typewriter, an adjacent ashtray full of butts. The dog is brooding, contemplating what next to write. Every key reads, "WOOF."
