I'm very excited for a bunch of Spike Jones.

Wow - love the eight track picture :-)

Spike Jones on 8=track. VERY Spike!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

How old is that?
Avatar 6:04pm
Don-O:

I'm thinking on a second Spike show that goes deeper into his catalog.

Yes please! :-)

Hi Don-O!
Hi Hopey!
Hi DJ GeorgyGirl! Lovely show today!

HEY, RICH!....and everybody else as well.

truly amazing right off the bat. :-)
Julie Driscoll made me late.

Thank you, Rich! :-)

Hi Rich!

Don-O:

I don't know if anybody else has noticed this but my Marathon banner has only 1%. Am I a curse around here?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

That sounds like an autobiography title - "Julie Driscoll Made Me Late" ;-)
Avatar 6:07pm
Linda Lee:

wouldn't that be fine! :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I don't understand what the percentages mean ... they freak me out a little, if I'm honest :-(
Avatar 6:09pm
Don-O:

This show is more of a 'Greatest Hits' and the other one will be futher down a rabbit hole. See what happens.
Avatar 6:09pm
Linda Lee:

supposedly each show has a goal to reach ~ who knows where that comes from ~ & the banner shows the percentage of the goal reached.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Spike Jones takes me to a very happy childhood sanctuary :-)
Avatar 6:10pm
Don-O:

DJGG, I suspect that means 'pressure' on everybody. The station is from New Jersey. They are pretty tough about this like this I guess.
Avatar 6:10pm
Linda Lee:

i wish to be unimaginably wealthy & flood Sheena's with cash. just flood it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm not very good at it :-(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm
Hopey Sockmonkey:

Ooooo, this is a fave :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Maybe I should do a Bob Geldof? "GIVE US YER FUCKIN' MONEY!" lol
Avatar 6:12pm
Linda Lee:

unfortunately Sheena's is a pretty exclusive club ~ & then, apparently only 1 in 10 listeners actually contributes!
Avatar 6:13pm
Linda Lee:

i'm not sure what you can do about that.
Avatar 6:14pm
Linda Lee:

1 in 10! so the station has made it policy to attract new listeners, rather than get more out of the existing pool.
Avatar 6:14pm
Don-O:

Any Homer & Jethro fans out there?
Avatar 6:16pm
Linda Lee:

just found out where Itchy & Scratchy on the Simpsons came from! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Linda - thank you for the link! :-)
Avatar 6:19pm
Don-O:

Oh, DJGG! Thanks again for the Mellow Magic For The 70's copy! I'm still surviving from the move and can't digitize ANYthing. The version of 'Dreams' will be used in a show!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Excellent! I'm so glad I could help :-) If there's anything else you need, let me know :-)
Avatar 6:20pm
Linda Lee:

i don't think october's the best time for a marathon, myself. christmas on the way & all that pressure to spend beyond our means, when we're already squeezed! march is much better. i hope to be much more flush by then myself! wink!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

March went really well. And yeah ... Christmas on the horizon really makes things difficult financially.
Avatar 6:22pm
Linda Lee:

i guess this is when the bills come in for the last quarter..
Avatar 6:22pm

but it's not a good time.

That was ME Don-O! Thanks for playing Pal-Yat-Chee!
Avatar 6:23pm
Mr Fab:

Spacebrother Greg told me that Doodles Weaver is related to Sigourney Weaver somehow. Like he's her uncle or sumthin?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm
Rich in Washington:

I remember first hearing that on The National Lampoon Radio Hour.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Doodles Weaver is a FABULOUS name :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm
Hopey Sockmonkey:

Mr. Fab, for real?? That's amazing.
Avatar 6:24pm

yes, he's her uncle!

I think Homer and Jethro did other songs as part of the City Slickers, but I am not sure which ones.

River:

On the subject of Xmas, I wonder to what extent fundraising can be combined with WFMU evangelism. I know I tell everyone about the station but WFMU related gifts/gift sponsorships could be a good idea.
Avatar 6:26pm
Don-O:

There should be a Doodles Weaver Boulevard!
Avatar 6:26pm
Don-O:

....or Doodles Drive!
Avatar 6:26pm
Linda Lee:

or even a development! Doodles Weaver Acres!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@River - that's a brilliant idea!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm
Hopey Sockmonkey:

I wish there was a Sheena's t-shirt.
Avatar 6:27pm
Linda Lee:

'Chip & I just made our first down payment on a condo in the Doodles Weaver Community & we're *so* excited!'
Avatar 6:27pm
Mr Fab:

This has been the most powerful Powerhouse in my book for quite some time. and there are a lot of Powerhouses out there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I picture the Doodles Weaver Community along the lines of Knots Landing ;-) But I *may* be biased :-)
Avatar 6:29pm
Linda Lee:

i'd like to see a Sheena's Jungle Room t shirt with the name on a matchbook next to an ashtray & a cocktail glass. or maybe on a coaster..
Avatar 6:29pm
Linda Lee:

why Knots Landing, GG?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I found the real Knots Landing on Google Maps and spent an hour happily gazing at the houses ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm
Hopey Sockmonkey:

Linda, YES. That would be fabulous.
Avatar 6:30pm
Linda Lee:

don'tcha think? :-)
done in a pulp style.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I love Knots Landing. Obsessively so. lol
Avatar 6:30pm
Mr Fab:

Interesting idea, River. I guess anyone could pledge, get a premium, and gift it to someone for xmas. But you mean like if WFMU had a whole store, kind of our own Amazon type thing that people could buy gifts from?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

We did have a discussion about both a Sheena t-shirt and a coaster back in March :-)
Avatar 6:31pm
Don-O:

As great as 'Spike Jones Is Murdering The Classics' album is, I wish they did a BETTER job of mastering the damned thing. All that echo and 'stereopying' really destroys an otherwise a great album.
Avatar 6:32pm
Linda Lee:

really! a regular coaster! very cool.
i was seeing the coaster on the shirt, next to the ashtray & the cigarette lighter. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Maybe we could do a post along those lines? "Stumped for a Christmas present for a loved one? Why not pledge now and gift them a t-shirt or a premium CD?"
Avatar 6:32pm
Mr Fab:

There IS a coaster, which you can get, but the company that made it kind of screwed it up. I'm not real happy with it. But hey, maybe if you stick a drink on it, it won't really matter, eh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I did a design for a Dave t-shirt which would be cool. I'm may have to budget for that :-)
Avatar 6:34pm
Linda Lee:

people do seem to dig schwag, unfortunately. i tell the station to keep the money!
Avatar 6:34pm
Linda Lee:

at least there's print on demand!
Avatar 6:35pm
Linda Lee:

they don't wind up purchasing shwag that isn't distributed. it's all print on demand.
Avatar 6:35pm
Linda Lee:

at least i hope so! :-O
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

swinging in! howdy, all!!!
  6:36pm
River:

@Mr Fab: Something like that maybe, yeah. I love that WFMU is supported primarily by donations, but there's potentially an opportunity to grow the station's listenership by making it easy for people to gift merch which might say 'tune in to WFMU for more like this' (eg).
Avatar 6:36pm

hey Granny! :-)

Hi Granny Spicy Tuna!
Hi River!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Hi, LL, GG and any other alliterative names, plus those with other kinds of names. I have lots of these Spike Jones tunes on 78 and often played them at my monthly victrola gig. Unparalleled goofiness!
Avatar 6:40pm
Linda Lee:

the station did make those big investments in billboards ~ somewhat successfully. it's really been about attracting new listener. the drive-time morning show is part of that strategy. it's very normal.
Avatar 6:41pm
Don-O:

Good Hello, Granny!
Avatar 6:41pm
Linda Lee:

attracting new listenerS, plural. we hope.
  6:41pm
River:

It's pretty awful to say it, and I'm sure it's not an original thought, but if WFMU needs to diversify its income streams in order to be financially sustainable, it should.
Avatar 6:42pm
Mr Fab:

Actually, I believe the coaster does have the channel name, but it also has these annoying lines around it that weren't supposed to be printed. Not sure why the picture on the premium page doesn't show it.
Avatar 6:42pm
Linda Lee:

that looks like a tough graphic to print nicely, as well. not a lot of contrast.
  6:43pm

I'm a big Spike fan - check out his TV shows and old film shorts to see all this stuff happening live, with weird props and costumes, and an occasional Mickey Katz.
