Matt from New Orleans:

It was a campaign song for berry gordy’s sister Esther’s husband George Edwards when he ran for state rep in 1958 apparently. It was written by Berry Gordy and George Davis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm
Matt from New Orleans:

That’s from discogs not my brain
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm
ultradamno:

Jackie was arguably Motown before there was one, with one of Gordy's first hits, Reet Petite.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm
Mr. Fine Wine:

Mr. C! That's a Detroit record from 1958, a campaign advertisement for Berry Gordy's brother-in-law George Edwards's reelection to the Michigan State House of Reps....Co-written by Berry and Roquel Davis....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I meant to write Billy Davis but had George on the brain
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15pm
Mr. Fine Wine:

Ha, I see I was beaten to the punch! But Roquel Billy Davis is the co-writer, says my 45....

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49pm

There's some other soul production from this time that shares Pat Lewis's arrangement, but I'm blanking
