Good evening efd and every one

Steve:

It's Punk and New Wave that whomever came up with the title/term Post-Punk didn't want to call the bands/artists Punk or New Wave
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm
ultradamno:

I always liked how many things that existed simultaneously with Punk get to be Post-Punk.

Zootopia:

Is London Calling considered Post Punk? If so how about Sandinista?
  9:11pm
Steve:

I consider it Punk and New Wave, Zootopia. The Clash were one of the original Punk bands
Avatar 9:12pm
Zootopia:

Yes but the Clash evolved beyond punk.
Avatar 9:12pm

Ah, steve I see what you are saying.

or 'Helter Skelter' by The Beatles was before that ?!

Zootopia:

Sandinista Was the best. I remember going to the record store in 1980 with Christmas money and buying London Calling, Sandinista and Black Market Clash for twenty bucks and getting change enough to buy a issue of Rolling Stone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16pm
ultradamno:

I'd say "Honey Hush" by Johnny Burnette.
  9:18pm
Steve:

We must've done the same thing, Zootopia. I remember buying that Triple Record Set, Sandinista I think in Nov. 1980 when it was first released. I loved it then and now. It's my fave Clash album ! You got a great deal there with what you bought back then.

Cee Farrow never heard of. Likes his Bauhaus, not such a bad thing. More book-learnin' EFD

I bought London Calling Used for 4.00 Sandinista for 8.98 and Black Market Clash for 3.98 in a used record store across the street from Broward Community College in Davie Florida. I rode my bike. I think the rolling stone had springsteen on ice skates.

P-90:

I know what you mean about Tom Petty’s rise in the age of Punk/New Wave, I’ve never forgotten hearing the very beginning of “American Girl” on the radio for the first time when it was just released. My instant thought was “Oh, what’s this, a new Nick Lowe song...?”
  10:15pm
P-90:

For me, this may be the quintessential Eddie track.

I believe “Think I’m In Love” is one of the best Top 40 hits of the 1980s. Just pop perfection.

johnzo:

JakeGould I can see why they weren't thrilled about that poster haha
  10:25pm
P-90:

Poor Eddie had to go and check out the same week as Ocasec, who promptly nabbed all the attention. Which is sort of fitting, Eddie always had his share of good breaks and bad ones in the rock star business.

I'm no fan of Mr. Money, but I have to say, Gimme Some Water is nigh unstoppable.

You got it @efd, Eddie’s stuff was indeed often innocently dumb and innocently sweet and endearing at the same time. You could call that his signature move..
Avatar 10:29pm

I don't care if it's hip or not, Eddie Money's first album was solid.

Your show tonight is a tribute to a variety of folks that you've had different "relationships" with... something we all can relate to... it actually brings us together on some level... it's a bittersweet relationship I have with WFMU -- the news of folks passing who we collectively "knew" depresses me, but WFMU is the first place i turn to during times like this.

sufferwords:

Peace to Kim, a warrior here in Los Angeles forever- per earlier discussion vis a vis what is punk? post punk etc. Everyone confuses punk with a style which it never was, it became a style when bands began to mimic the iconoclasts who adhered to not a musical style but an uncompromising spirit of creativity. Everything the Clash did was punk because they didn’t give a fuck, anyone remember the controversy surrounding Sandinista? A three record set that the label wanted to charge a commensurate price, Clash said fuck that, charge a single album price for it. The Clash fucked themselves for years doing a solid for their fans, punk? oh hell yes!
Avatar 11:02pm

I completely missed the muffs. IDKW. Perhaps I was too much into the whole Grunge scene. Maybe I wasn't reading the right magazines...Rolling Stone and Spin at the time.
