	12:47am coelacanth∅: speaking of ...Stan played the entire necks track that Dan Bodah used to use for bed music ("clearwater"? -something like that) which is over an hour. i don't think he interrupted it for the id either.

	12:54am coelacanth∅: soliloquy for lilith by nurse with wound is almost 107 minutes long. when it was released it got tons of airplay on fmu. i wonder if anyone played the whole thing

	1:03am rw: There's a Steve Reich performance scheduled for Disney Hall in LA next year. I was thinking about buying tickets but the works aren't my favorite. Still seats available but most of the good ones are gone. I sure hope I'm not making a big mistake.

	1:11am rw: Double Sextet, Runner and the premier of a new work. I would totally sit through It's Gonna Rain! I don't think I've seen Music for 18, but it's a favorite. I'm sure I've listened to the record hundreds of times. I used to have a tape of it in the car.

	1:12am coelacanth∅: i still kick myself for not making it to see Rodelius at the college in my town, for free in fact, about 2 years ago. i hope he comes around in 5 years again...when he's 90 years old. he probably wont.

	2:02am sv: i think you can contact a local apiarist and get involved with them - there are classes they teach that show you the ropes, then you can start buying equipment/bees
	2:03am johnzo: my mom keeps bees. she says it's a lot of work.
	2:04am johnzo: she took a class... they helped her get set up with the materials & stuff. part of the fee. maybe you could find a group like that, or just some random beekeeper in your neighborhood...

	2:08am Z-pulpa: I am moving back to New Mexico where I grew up, and now that I am looking it seems like through the state beekeeping association I could find some guidance. I have never been to fearful of bee stings and the idea of having jars of fresh honey and relationship with a hive I think could suit me... just brain storming the future and bes are important part of the future it seems. Thanks for the input everyone!

	2:12am Z-pulpa: The only thing about the property my family has is its near the mountains and bears could be a concern.. Ill have to ask some folks with more knowledge about how worried to be about bigger hungry animals going after the honey.
	2:14am johnzo: I know my mom has a fence around hers... I wanna say it's electric but I may be imagining that. Im not sure if it's for bears or other critters... tho I did get within about 20 feet of a bear not far from her house once(it ran away from me)
	2:15am rw: A bunch of bees formed a basketball sized mass at work a few years ago. Evidently they were migrating and the queen got tired so they all swarmed around her for protection while she rested. It looked insane when they took off again. The whole courtyard was filled with bees! Somewhere I may have a photo...

	2:16am johnzo: one time I saw a beekeeper remove a swarm of bees from one of those grills they have at public parks... it was fascinating. he used smoke.

	2:16am coelacanth∅: i've been up to my chest, surrounded by blooming mint with hundreds (at least) of bees all around me and not gotten stung while working at a normal pace -pulling weeds and such. i did get a warning once (in several years) because i'd inadvertently been rough with them. i just stepped back and came back to that spot later that day.

	2:19am johnzo: yea I had a similar experience cleaning up trash on my block... they were swarming around a bottle of barbecue sauce or something. I was able to take trash from all around them without getting stung somehow... just gotta be careful.
	2:21am coelacanth∅: a couple of them flew around my face. maybe they were just checking me out but they never did that before, and i know i was being rough. i pulled some weeds that were tough and when i got 'em i whacked the mint pretty hard.
	2:22am Zetti: Consider mason bee keeping, no honey but they are best pollinators.
	2:22am johnzo: then I tried to show some friends this cool Wasp nest... which Ive been close to many times before... but this time one of them fell out of the nest, then got angry and stung my friend...

	2:28am johnzo: Im in MI... I never saw one before last summer & I lived in Vermont for several years but idk... "The genus Agapostemon is a common group of Western Hemisphere sweat bees, most of which are known as metallic green sweat bees for their color. They are members of the family of bees known as Halictidae. Like other sweat bees, they are attracted to human sweat, and they use the salt from the sweat for nutrition."

	2:32am coelacanth∅: yellowjackets are wasps, and though i see many species of wasps on the flowers i rarely see yellowjackets on them. they like sugar, and meat.
	2:32am greatb: especially when it gets time for the county fairs and the fried dough
	2:32am johnzo: idk coel, could have been, it's hard to tell but I think the green orchid bees are a bit bigger? this one was real tiny
	2:33am coelacanth∅: all those other wasps seem as docile as the bees, by my experience. the only ones i have a problem with are the yellowjackets and the white-faced hornets.

	2:39am sv: in some cases bees will tear overly drunk/lazy bee's legs off to make an example off their slovenly brethren

	2:08am Z-pulpa: I am moving back to New Mexico where I grew up, and now that I am looking it seems like through the state beekeeping association I could find some guidance. I have never been to fearful of bee stings and the idea of having jars of fresh honey and relationship with a hive I think could suit me... just brain storming the future and bes are important part of the future it seems. Evidently they were migrating and the queen got tired so they all swarmed around her for protection while she rested. It looked insane when they took off again. The whole courtyard was filled with bees! Somewhere I may have a photo...

	2:16am coelacanth∅: i've been up to my chest, surrounded by blooming mint with hundreds (at least) of bees all around me and not gotten stung while working at a normal pace -pulling weeds and such. i did get a warning once (in several years) because i'd inadvertently been rough with them. i just stepped back and came back to that spot later that day.
