This is so weird. I was JUST THIS MINUTE Googling something about Jimi. The Jimi/McLaughlin connection, prompted by Tony playing John McLaughlin.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm
David D:

It is the same set-up that we've had here for years, Fred, no idea what was happening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm
fred:

@David: I'm asking because MS tends to release patches on Tuesdays, and these downloads can hog bandwidth and take far too long on Windows 10

the glitches are really minor. I find it barely noticeable. More transfixed by this Dolphy, which is sublime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm
David D:

Thanks, Rich, glad the glitching is not too terrible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm
Rich in Washington:

HA! I saw someone post a version of this song with Boris' picture today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm
doctorjazz:

Always loved this song (I Fought The Law), don't think I've heard a version I didn't like. This reminds me of Richard Thompson.
Avatar 🚂 5:48pm
Carmichael:

The Clash did a good version as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm
doctorjazz:

Well, more the band sound than three vocals, but when t gem occasionally.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm
Sem:

Enjoying the proceedings from the kitchen, at some would say a volume is higher than it needs to be. Thinking about getting a second opinion. Love this show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm
David D:

Thanks so much, Sem!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm
Rich in Washington:

and was just this moment watching my state Senator call for impeachment proceedings. Ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm
David D:

This can be the new national anthem.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm
Webhamster Henry:

You're getting to the Madagaskan version, from World Out Of Time, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm
David D:

Oops a lot of Finnish talk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm
David D:

Ah, Henry, you point me in directions again...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm

Is Mary Wing in Leipzig? (oh wait, the original wasn't played first...)
Avatar 5:59pm
northguineahills:

Different sound for Henry Kaiser....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm
Webhamster Henry:

World Out Of Time was a big WFMU fave when it came out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02pm
Rich in Washington:

I recently learned that the original lyrics to this song included the line '..robbing people with a ZIP gun", but it was changed to 'SIX gun', for fear that it would encourage juvenile delinquents, as a homemade zip gun was supposed to be their weapon of choice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm
Rich in Washington:

this was the time when Link Wray's Rumble was banned from many radio stations because of its title (but also because it's awesome!).
Avatar 6:07pm
northguineahills:

would a 3-D printed gun be a modern analogue to a zip gun? (less likely to explode in your hand).
Avatar 6:08pm
sispus:

yakışmaz :)
Avatar 6:12pm
sispus:

Actually I'm not a fan of kemence sound but this song...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm

doctorjazz:

Time to depart, hit the road, thanks, David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm
David D:

Thanks, Doctorjazz - safe travels!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm
Rich in Washington:

@northguineahills: I would think so. I think a zip gun in 1950s nomenclature was a piece of pipe which fits a certain cartridge, with a crude handle and a spring or rubber band loaded plunger - much like the lever of a pinball machine - which serves as its firing pin.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 6:21pm
chris:

thanks, David! really enjoyed the show. must hop off, we're about to my continent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm
Rich in Washington:

I remember once visiting my grandparents when I was very young and my grandfather presented my father with a box of items which he had confiscated from him when he was a teenager and one of the items was a crude pistol he'd made by sawing off a rifle and the other, a real live 'Italian Toothpick' style switchblade knife.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm
David D:

Thanks, Chris, have a good onward voyage!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm
David D:

Rich, those were the days...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm
Rich in Washington:

Imagine having to make a gun in order to get one. Now anyone can practically get military grade weapons at the impulse item section at the checkout aisle (sorry for these exclusively American references).
Avatar 6:38pm
sispus:

süpürgesi yoncadan means, "her broom is made of clover" and continues with how slim her waist is, etc. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm
David D:

Thanks, Sispus - that is quite a metaphor!
Avatar 6:40pm
sispus:

saz actually means "instrment" in turkish. but "the instrument" is bağlama, then when you say saz, it is always bağlama.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm
David D:

NGH: Glad you can phone it in!
Avatar 6:42pm
sispus:

in some phrase, for example "saz eserleri" it is instrument, here: instrumental works (pieces)"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm
David D:

So is it used for all instruments then - also non-traditional ones?
Avatar 6:47pm
sispus:

yes, for all the instruments. but you must tihink of bağlama in the first place when you heard this word.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm
David D:

Okay, got it! (I think ;)
Avatar 6:48pm

it is like, park and "the park" :)
