Terry Crews also froze when he was groped and no one is bigger than him. The brain just is in shock that something like that is happening esp. in a so-called safe relationship/place/party etc.

Planet Tyler—Appreciate your right-on thoughts here. I'm glad the "freeze" response is starting to be more thoroughly discussed. It's what happens to nearly everyone in that situation.
  4:09pm
John from Florham park:

@Shelia nice sound effect to blank out the naughty word
  4:11pm
Toothgrinder Tom:

The nice thing about studying jiu jutsu or some other martial art is that it teaches you to overcome that natural instinct to freeze when in danger.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm
tim from champaign:

In a training I was in recently about the effects of trauma, freezing was discussed as a naturally/instinctual response to a traumatic event. Along with fight and flight, freezing can occur because a person wants to assess the situation before acting (this is all occuring in a split second). I don't want to sound glib in relaying this because I'm deeply empathetic toward the women Weinstein assaulted, DJ Sheila's description of the doc reminded me of this.
  4:20pm
Jocelyn:

I’m glad that discussing freezing, the psychology of it is becoming more discussed openly. For so long it was oh it couldn’t be so bad if you didn’t run or react differently but you froze!

Avatar 4:21pm

@Jocelyn—Exactly! And thanks for sharing your training experience @tim from champaign. I think there's a lot of worry about not wanting to make the other person feel bad...even they're about to rape you! Women are taught not to ruffle feathers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm
Michael 98145:

how horrible ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm
Planet Tyler:

Thankfully people arent just saying fight or flight anymore - it's flight, fight or freeze. You'd think witnessing it in animals for so long we'd have picked up on it sooner!

John from Florham park:

Great movie but very strange the crying game
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm
tim from champaign:

The term used for freezing is 'flocking' which stems from the instinct to stop and observe what someone else is doing to respond accordingly. The example used in my training was a newborn/baby looking around their surrounds to gauge how to react when something happens. With that said, no one should be criticized for how they responded to violence toward them. It doesn't matter how one responds; it's the person who being violent who is at fault.

@tim thanks for this information, I have learned a lot from very knowledgeable people on this accu board

Passaic River Blues:

I always wonder what synths are being used in Turkish music from the late 1960s through the mid-1970s. Generally, the use of the synth seems to fit perfectly with pop Turkish folk. The melding is so lovely it feels somewhat akin to how traditional Irish musicians discovered and incorporated the bouzouki.

I continue to defend the CD format for compilations, such those they put out on Ace.
People do not understand me. Maybe they will.

Phillippe Bastille:

My 24 yr old (non-FMU listener) just stuck his head in my office when the Lijadu Sisters were singing and said "Wow, this is really nice!" I will convert him! He doesn't listen to a lot of music anymore -- we had similar tastes when he did, but he kind of gave that up when he dove head-first into listening to political podcasts
