Hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am
fred:

Good morning Jason and listeners
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am
fred:

I would have loved to see Kate Tempest. But by the time she played around here, she was already too famous and tickets too expensive for me
Avatar 11:13am
Jason Elbogen:

I think she's pretty good, Fred. I just came across her...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am
fred:

I really liked this Yugen Blakrok track
Avatar 11:15am
Jason Elbogen:

Do you know this Hong Kong band, Fred? Rather good I think.
Avatar 11:16am
Jason Elbogen:

They played in New York apparently, but that was before I knew they existed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Jason, hi Fred. Listening from the beginning, but busy with gardening (....) Now I have to buy some dinner at the corner and then I will be all ears.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am
fred:

I had never heard of them. Sound good
Avatar 11:23am
Mr Fab:

*yawn, stretch* Good morning, friends of Sheena!
  11:25am
Dave in Battambang Cambodia:

Good evening from me! It's 22:24 here in rainy Cambodia. Two Angkor beers and your selection of music. Things are good.
Avatar 11:27am
Mr Fab:

hi Dave, but is it Friday where you are? Or still Thu? (or a week from next Tuesday?)
Avatar 11:27am
Jason Elbogen:

Hey Dave! I can't remember anyone checking in from Cambodia! But thanks...
  11:31am
Dave in Battambang Cambodia:

Yes it's still Friday. Up early in a few hours to ride the bamboo train. BTW this music is beautiful and relaxing. More please.
Avatar 11:34am
Mr Fab:

"Ride the bamboo train" sounds terribly exotic. It also sounds like it could be a euphemism for something.
Avatar 11:37am
Jason Elbogen:

Dave--Do you live/work in Cambodia?
  11:45am
Dave in Battambang Cambodia:

Just travelling around the country for a few weeks with my family on holiday. Exploring the temples ie Angkor Wat etc. The "bamboo train" once transported bamboo before the line was destroyed during the troubled time in the 1970's. @MrFab what a great euphemism! The mind boggles.
Avatar 11:52am
Linda Lee:

i cannot find any pix of the P. J. Fa singers online. disappointing.
  11:54am
Dave in Battambang Cambodia:

Hi Jason. Cambodian radio is a difficult listen! WiFi is everywhere (and superfast) and, as in the UK, most Cambodian adults seem to be transfixed by their smartphones. Beautiful country, amazing food and very friendly people. However the roads can be dangerous and the driving is madness.
Avatar 11:55am
Linda Lee:

ergo the bamboo train :-)
Avatar 11:57am
Mr Fab:

Hi Linda, was looking for the P.J. Fa Singers cover, too, ha ha. You'll have to post it Jason, it does not exist in web-land.
Avatar 12:08pm
Linda Lee:

what a shame.
Avatar 12:09pm
Jason Elbogen:

Actually this song is creepier than I thought!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm
fred:

Jason, you did play The P.J. Fa Singers before, but that was before you started posting covers on your playlist, so no pic there
Avatar 12:10pm
Linda Lee:

pretty amazing record, Jason! the vocalist has no credit?
Avatar 12:11pm
Jason Elbogen:

[I don't know why the volume is so low, though, sorry]. But maybe it's better not to hear the lyrics...
Avatar 12:11pm
Mr Fab:

that Pete Sivo had me laffin'!
  12:11pm
brainiac:

Wait, did she rhyme lactically with galaxy?
Lets hear that one again
Avatar 12:11pm
Linda Lee:

i'm still trying to figure out 'ride the bamboo train' too, Mr F! :-D
Avatar 12:15pm
Mr Fab:

I just hope it's something positive, and not like "Joe was doing great, til he started riding that ol' bamboo train. Ain't been the same since..."
Avatar 12:16pm
Linda Lee:

was just trying to remember what opium pipes were made with, traditionally..
Avatar 12:17pm
Linda Lee:

the bowl does look a bit like a locomotive chimney..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm
Rich in Washington:

This show is fantastic, Jason! I just rolled out of bed but caffeine is kicking in - typing fingers waking up.
Avatar 12:18pm
Linda Lee:

bingo! check paragraph 2. en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 12:21pm
Jason Elbogen:

Was the volume on the creepy Pete Sivo song (to start this set) REALLY low for the listeners, too?
Avatar 12:22pm
Linda Lee:

just a little. heard the lyrics ok.
Avatar 12:22pm
Linda Lee:

it didn't seem super low. just a tad.
  12:23pm
Dave in Battambang Cambodia:

Comments making me laugh. I wish "riding the bamboo train" was something more exotic than merely going on a journey by train! :-)
Avatar 12:23pm
Linda Lee:

i like the Sea Moss a lot!
Avatar 12:24pm
Linda Lee:

Dave, it could be! :-)
Avatar 12:25pm
Mr Fab:

Yeah, volume wasn't really low. It was ok.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm
fred:

I think there must be at least one "latin" character or number to enable the star, so putting the original title then a translation works
Avatar 12:31pm
Linda Lee:

Jason, to this day cell tech has not been proven safe. that's fact.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm
fred:

"Did you hear Trump won?" is the first thing I heard waking up after heart surgery (two nurses talking just outside my room)
Avatar 12:34pm
Linda Lee:

were you doubtful that you'd awakened, fred?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm
fred:

Nope, the pain made sure of that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm
fred:

Is this the ethnic music segment of the show?
Avatar 12:38pm
Linda Lee:

i'm sorry for that awakening. i think hospital personnel should know better, frankly.
Avatar 12:39pm
Linda Lee:

volume seems down for the Preacher for sure.
Avatar 12:46pm
Linda Lee:

.. but this Otis Skillings track sounds great. it's amazing.
Avatar 12:48pm
Linda Lee:

and 'rejoice' is terrifically gay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm
fred:

@LL: I don't see how their talking would be an issue. I came out of that hospital stay with a huge amount of respect for how they handle very tough conditions for insanely long shifts
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm
fred:

@Jason: I had never thought of "I'm my own grandpa" as exploring deep theological questions
Avatar 12:56pm
Linda Lee:

yes. full respect. absolutely.
i can imagine someone hearing the news from a hospital bed & being literally sickened by it, but i'm also easily 'triggered', as they say.
Avatar 12:56pm
Linda Lee:

it's clearly not a concern for caregivers.
Avatar 12:58pm
Linda Lee:

Jason, if you change your tune due to fear of reprisal, the terrorists win.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm
fred:

@LL: I'm in France, so it's not that big a deal to most people. And we have our own issues. Let's just say that none of the Le Pen family would ever say there were "fine people on both sides", because they made clear where they stand
Avatar 1:02pm
Jason Elbogen:

'So much winning'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm
Otis Fodder:

Hi Jason and everyone, have been listening in and moved over to chat to say hi and love the selections today.
Avatar 1:07pm
Linda Lee:

ah. didn't know where you were writing from. our politics are tearing families & friendships apart here. people are suffering emotionally & so physically.
Avatar 1:08pm
Jason Elbogen:

So, Fred, you're saying Le Pen's worse?
Avatar 1:08pm
Linda Lee:

i'm sure most of this is due to exposure to a mainstream media environment that thrives on trauma. i stay away from it.
Avatar 1:09pm
Linda Lee:

meant to say that our mainstream media thrives on trauma. i don't believe environments 'thrive', really.
Avatar 1:12pm
Linda Lee:

hi, Otis!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm
Otis Fodder:

Hi Linda. Hope everyone is having a swell Friday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm
fred:

@Jason: Yes. They're the real thing. I'm not sure there's much "neo" in their neo-nazism, though Marine hides it a little better than Jean-Marie or Marion
Avatar 1:15pm
Jason Elbogen:

I'm going to play an (older) Thai song next. To prove my DJhood,I will inform you ahead of time to pay attention the awesome 'break' toward the end.
Avatar 1:17pm
Linda Lee:

wow. this is an amazing record.
Avatar 1:17pm
Jason Elbogen:

[Sorry, I just think the term 'break' (in regards to drum solos) is funny]
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm
fred:

Is that the DJ equivalent of calling a home run before the at bat?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm
Otis Fodder:

Ha, give us those 'breaks' and 'beats' dj!
Avatar 1:19pm
Jason Elbogen:

Here it is!!!
Avatar 1:19pm
Linda Lee:

whoa!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm
Otis Fodder:

Looping in my mind.
Avatar 1:19pm
Linda Lee:

that was superb.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm
fred:

That sure got me down on the floor (OK, I was already there because I don't like furniture)
Avatar 1:21pm
Linda Lee:

wow. what's this amazing follow-up? what patois?
Avatar 1:23pm
Jason Elbogen:

Well, that was a 'break' in the last song, right? (this would be extra-humiliating if I didn't even know what one was after all that buildup)
Avatar 1:23pm
Linda Lee:

wow.....
Avatar 1:23pm
Linda Lee:

yep, that one really broke! :-)
Avatar 1:25pm
Mr Fab:

dug that Madagascar garage fuzz the most! (And I do believe that in the long history of the English language, that was the first time anyone has ever said 'Madagascar garage fuzz")
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm
fred:

There's a sizeable Malagasy community in France, so I had many occasions to sample the music (and the food)
Avatar 1:30pm
Linda Lee:

Jason, don't worry about this stuff. please.
  1:31pm
brainiac:

ESL teachers should always teach their class the phrase, "Frank Burns eats worms."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm
fred:

Well played Jason, saying you play something in honor of the Party should go well with any censor
Avatar 1:37pm
Mr Fab:

brainiac: LOL! Yep, i remember MASH, one of my moms 's fave shows.
  1:39pm
brainiac:

The ESL scene in "Stripes" is funny too, but I don't want to offend any gentle fellow listeners ;)
Avatar 1:40pm
Jason Elbogen:

I never saw 'Stripes'. My parents were too strict.
Avatar 1:45pm
Mr Fab:

Jason, that's why I went to my friend's house for such things (anyone remember ON TV?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
fred:

More Thai goodness!
Avatar 1:48pm
Mr Fab:

Aishat Mohammed. But I did not shoot the deputy.
  1:50pm
brainiac:

Good one, Mr Fab!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm
fred:

Maybe there could be a pun challenge between Mr Fab and Doug next marathon for the stream pun belt?
Avatar 1:55pm
Mr Fab:

Right on, a Sheena's vs Drummer smackdown! It could be held in, where else, Punjab.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Thanks for another wonderfull show, Jason. I have been listening, but too busy to chat. I will take over www.wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm
fred:

Thanks Jason!
