Sounds from the archive of the future, sonic drilling into the past, dissonant rumbling, lyrical melodies, noises (human, animal, mechanical, digital) inscrutable yet honest, desultory but consistent.

The WFMU family now has a Dave Sewelman (GTDS stream) and David Suisman (whom has been here quite a while), pretty soon, I'll need a David spreadsheet for WFMU djs….

No more cooking until I leave my abode for me until I leave, I need to clean, and I'm a messy chef. Cheap takeout food for me for the next few days, but, I still have my garden chilis, herbs, and spices to help out.

Spanish tea cookies sounds good, never heard of them.

Kim Sorise's show is fun, mostly jazz, in the Drummer corridor.

the guy who suggested the Army Recruitment Record Club idea probably felt really smart for a few weeks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm
coelacanth∅:

Kim's premium cds are always killer too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm
doctorjazz:

I wouldn't call Global Grease mostly jazz, though she does play it. Lots of world music, R&b, great mix.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm
coelacanth∅:

intentional segue Bill Withers > army recruitment record? (Bill having served and being present on at least one army radiospot album)
Avatar 9:42pm
TDK60:

..thanx for clarity, doc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm
doctorjazz:

(I don't know an FMU show that's mostly jazz (but I haven't been able to catch them all). Jeff Golick's Destination Out is the closest, but he hits on many other styles as well. I wouldn't mind an all or mostly jazz show, but there are other places to get that, I suppose.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm
coelacanth∅:

d.o. is majority jazz, but not mostly jazz.
music for a free world is mostly jazz, but not mostly music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm
coelacanth∅:

(although i've probably missed 1/4 of Sewelson's shows so i'm not sure. i think i've only caught one that wasn't all or mostly jazz)
Avatar 9:53pm
TDK60:

this sounds like it could be good march music, for some odd surreal procession... right?
Avatar 9:54pm
northguineahills:

@doctorjazz: I wouldn't mind either, but even I get bored if a dj plays the same genre, even if every selection is flawless. Hence, me heart woof moo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54pm
doctorjazz:

Music For a Free World is the closest, true, and it's a great show. But, it does have a focus on a particular corner of jazz, leaning on Sewelson's being a free jazz player himself. (Seen him many times playing in The Microscopic Septet, where he's a subversive force).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm
doctorjazz:

@ngh, I'm with you, which is why I'm here and not at WBGO, say, which can get samey. But there's so much different jazz out there, it should be possible to not do a show of all bebop, say. If I ever retire, I'll br available... :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm
coelacanth∅:

dr j i guess that's true about Sewelson's niche. i happen to prefer "free" jazz and along those lines by a large margin so it doesn't seem that way to me; but yeah i think you're right.
...(and, envious of your having seen him perform)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm
coelacanth∅:

TDK you're referring to Kim Stanley Robinson?
...i'd never heard of him but just read a bit about him and i'm intrigued
Avatar 10:23pm
TDK60:

Coel: yes, imo: an incredible sci-fi writer. I first got into him via his epic Mars Trilogy; now reading New York 2140.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm
coelacanth∅:

this guy sounds really cool
-added to my list. hopefully i'll live long enough to get to 1/2 the books on that list
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm

Hi folks! I've never been able to get into Robinson but I quite like The Expanse series (both as books and TV). Also right now I'm reading a great novelette called "Her Silhouette, Drawn in Water" by Vylar Kaftan. Before that, "Terminal Alliance (Janitors of the Post-Apocalypse, Book 1)" by Jim C. Hines, which was quite amusing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm
