Theme de Yoyo is one of the few songs, not available on Spotify (actually, most of the AEoC isn't (I was making a playlist for a restaurant/bar a while back, and was frustrated, as they used Spotify).

Always a joy to get bonus Mary!
Avatar 2:31pm
Mary Wing:

Hiya NGH! Yeah, for all the amazing stuff you can find on Spotify, there are still many many tracks & artists no on there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm
fred:

@ngh: it's sadly not on the amazing ECM box set. I think that record was briefly reissued but remains out of print
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm
coelacanth∅:

of things i've absolutely never heard of i can find only maybe a little more than 1/2 of them on spotify.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm
coelacanth∅:

for a long time king crimson was not on spotify. now, only the king crimson that i don't give a shit about is on there...but that's obviously Fripp's ego's doing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm
fred:

Why would I waste time with Spotify when WFMU and its streams are there?
Avatar 2:41pm
northguineahills:

@fred: If you get paid to make playlists for places, it works...
Avatar 2:43pm
Mr Fab:

how the heck do you get people to pay you to make playlists?!
Avatar 2:47pm
Mary Wing:

Yeah, how do I get in on that action??
Avatar 2:47pm
Mary Wing:

HI Mr. Fab, also!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm
coelacanth∅:

i like listening to full albums. and i like exploring further into the catalogues of artists i discover (via fmu, usually) spotify is perfect for that.
i've never put on any of their "stations".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm
coelacanth∅:

i do have many playlists on spotify -in addition to but not taking the place of mixtapes and mixcds.
Avatar 2:50pm
northguineahills:

I have a friend that runs an 'ambience and aesthetics' firm for restaurants and bars, w/ designers, etc. I've freelanced to come up w/ playlists....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm
coelacanth∅:

i had a friend who did telephone hold music.
even though it technically is working in the music field, i think i'd kill myself if i did that for very long.
Avatar 3:03pm
geezerette:

Hello, Mary and crew. (Where's the espresso machine?)
Avatar 3:03pm
Mr Fab:

coelacanth∅: as in composing original on-hold music?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm
coelacanth∅:

heh,g that's where i'm at. i'm brewing coffee right now and just ate an espresso truffle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm
coelacanth∅:

Mr F yes, and if he got too out there (and you can imagine how low the bar is to be called too out there) it was rejected.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm
fred:

WFMU still surprises me by playing people I know and whose biggest venue has been open mic day at Instants Chavirés or the basement of a bar. I should be used to it by now, but it's still a shock. So I guess a lot of WFMU music is the same and isn't getting spotified soon
Avatar 3:06pm
Mary Wing:

Hi geezerette! Coffee time, yay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm
coelacanth∅:

(not that he was so creative anyway, in my opinion! his band kinda sucked!)
Avatar 3:07pm
Mr Fab:

Ha! Still, who even knew that was a thing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm
coelacanth∅:

oh yeah it's like library music. low or no royalties involved. just made and sold.
Avatar 3:08pm
geezerette:

Coel, I'll be right over!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm
coelacanth∅:

i've got 2 more truffles g!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm
fred:

@coel: Sony has a composing algorithm that's pretty good at that. Your friend might want to look at other options
Avatar 3:12pm
geezerette:

Yay! Let's bring one to Mary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm
coelacanth∅:

yeah fred i'd bet not too many humans are composing that stuff these days. i don't know if he's still doing it; we haven't spoke in over 2 decades, when his girlfriend/manager put me on his band's mailing list and i stopped communicating with him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm
fred:

@coel: I'm sorry, but your mention of girlfriend/manager made me think of Spiñal Tap
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm
coelacanth∅:

geez this is getting expensive but okay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm
fred:

*Spin̈al*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm
coelacanth∅:

i've never seen spinal tap but some scenes from it; i can imagine though. she probably was pushy and saw her boyfriend as the most talented member, and was resented by the other bandmembers. (am i close?)
-probably some parallels here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm
coelacanth∅:

(...i know. i should see spinal tap)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm
fred:

You're not that far, but Spinal Tap is a parody, so it takes it to 11 (lost connection for a few minutes)
Avatar 3:33pm
geezerette:

Coel, this is why I need espresso, I meant let's give Mary the one you offered me. I've already had breakfast, thanks!
(shuffling off in semi haze not unlike the L.A. atmosphere.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm

haha fred i do understand that reference!
Avatar 3:35pm
geezerette:

Fred, GF/manager with "cold sore". Heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm
coelacanth∅:

okay g i thought you'd make the >2000 mile journey to me to get the truffle -in which case i'd be glad to make the <80 mile journey to bring one to Mary!
Avatar 3:38pm
Mary Wing:

Anything less than 100 miles seems reasonable for delivery, heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm
fred:

I once talked a researcher into extrapolating his digital emulation of a tube amp to 11 on 11/11/11 aka Nigel Tufnel day. Didn't really sound different
Avatar 🛎 Swag For Life Member 3:41pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

I'd walk a mile for a Wing Ding.
Avatar 3:43pm
Mary Wing:

Heh. Hiya Ken! What about a Moon Pie and an RC Cola?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm
coelacanth∅:

well - if rw will deliver a box of ice-cream to Mayuko from over 2000 miles away then i'll feel ashamed not to do it! (except he didn't personally deliver it)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm
Franco Twinkie:

My favorite scene in Spinal Tap is when the band is eating in a restaurant and the girl friend of a certain member is sketching a picture of her boy friend (Michael Mckean?) as a noble lion. Yes Coel, band dynamics. It's all there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm
coelacanth∅:

i don't think i'd walk a mile for a wing ding (is that a mass-produced pastry? right?) and rc cola (yuck) or a moon pie (?)
... and definitely not for a camel.

Avatar 3:47pm
Mary Wing:

Hi Franco and Granny!

The mass-produced pastry is actually a Ring Ding, not a Wing Ding, coela.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm
coelacanth∅:

so, do we have to wait until the year 3011 to have another nigel tufnel day?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm
Franco Twinkie:

Granny! I just saw the pictures of your house! WOW!!! My eyeballs flew out of my head....but then they came back....just like a Tex Avery cartoon,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm

oh,duh! i used to eat ring dings!

Franco Twinkie: We heartily endorse such cartoonish behavior here in the Granny boot. :)
Avatar 3:54pm
geezerette:

But if you had a camel and sent it to Mary to pick up the RC and Moon Pie, you'd know how hallucinatory that combination can be;plus, the camel gets plenty of exercise and Mary shares a piece of American culture with you. There's no downside!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm
coelacanth∅:

i liked ring dings, yodels and twinkies. i did not like devildogs and don't remember ho hos so well, so i guess not.

speaking of twinkies Franco i love your new avatar!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm
coelacanth∅:

g, you have a point there...i think!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm
Franco Twinkie:

Before Harry Shearer was Nigel Tufnel in Spinal Tap, he was in The Credibility Gap. They would do this great parody of The Osmond Brothers singing a totally mangled version of One Bad Apple. They all wore American Flag fringed suede jackets and would do synchronized dance steps.
Avatar 🛎 Swag For Life Member 3:57pm

It was there stage show in the early '70's, Coel. I would be surprised if there were photos or film.
Avatar 🛎 Swag For Life Member 4:03pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Actually, The Fowl of Darkness would more likely say, No need to shout geezerette
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm
fred:

@Franco Twinkie: Harry Shearer was Derek Smalls, not Nigel Tufnel. Nigel was portrayed by Christopher Guest, though he only had 5 fingers in that role. Think how having 6 could have changed music history!
