Funny coincidence. I played M.M.&W.'s "Shack Man" last night for the first time in maybe 10 years. Still sounds great. Can't recall ever hearing them on WFMU, but then I'm a "newbie" of maybe 4-5 years. Great show, as always.

Machines is a Manfred Mann cover! welcome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm

The first album featured a notable "robotic" cover of Manfred Mann's UK hit "Machines" (composed by Mort Shuman), which Capitol released as a single.

Hi Irwin! Dave here (formerly at SECCA where we worked with you on a show of sound from Songs in the Key of Z!. Don't know anyting about Lothar and the Hand People's Machine work...but I did see them play live at the Atlantic City Pop Festival in 1969. The dates ere AUG 1-3...but maybe you knew that by playing them now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm
zopa:

@Irwin: It would appear to be so. Mort's version was released in 1980 on Philips.

Any of you catch the program on WMFU this morning that started before 9 and ended after noon (but before 1)? I and my housemate here (who's a newbie to WFMU, not like my original housemate who listened since the 1970s) liked the selection very much and would like to know who to thank. And can we knock out power in Mount Hope more often so we can hear this compilation?

No, Irwin, it was not Keillidh. She went out on the main streams and presumably on 91.1, but 90.1 was different. It was not DX like, say, Binghamton, it was Mount Hope. And none of the WFMU alternate stream playlists fit it.

Hey Irwin,
Do you know saxophonist John Ellis? He used to play with Charlie Hunter, and a whole bunch other people. I know Him from New Orleans and here in Brooklyn. He has some new music out FYI

@Irwin: Since you're playing the definitive (original) version of Machines, perhaps you should consider playing the song Lothar and the Hand People DID make famous, their legendary and immortal "Space Hymn."
