Michael 98145:

Said the lord unto his lady as he rode over the moss "Beware of Long Lankin that lives amongst the gorse; Beware the moss, beware the moor, beware of Long Lankin Make sure the doors are bolted well Lest Lankin should creep in." Said the lord unto his lady as he rode away, "Beware of Long Lankin that lives amongst the hay; Beware the moss, beware the moor, beware of Long Lankin Make sure the doors are bolted well Lest Lankin should creep in." "Where's the master of the house?" says Long Lankin. "He's 'way to London," says the nurse to him. "Where's the lady of the house?" says Long Lankin. "She's up in her chamber," says the nurse to him. "Where's the baby of the house?" says Long Lankin. "He's asleep in the cradle," says the nurse to him. "We will pinch him, we will prick him, we will stab him with a pin, And the nurse shall hold the basin for the blood all to run in." So they pinched him and they pricked him, then they stabbed him with a pin, And the false nurse held the basin for the blood all to run in. "Lady, come down the stairs," says Long Lankin. "How can I see in the dark?" she says unto him. "You have silver mantles," says Long Lankin. "Lady, come down the stairs by the light of them." Down the stairs the lady came, thinking no harm Lankin he stood ready to catch her in his arms. There was blood all in the kitchen There was blood all in the hall There was blood all in the parlour Where my lady she did fall Now Long Lankin shall be hanged from the gallows oh so high, And the false nurse shall be burned in the fire close by. Said the lord unto his lady as he rode over the moss "Beware of Long Lankin that lives amongst the gorse; Beware the moss, beware the moor, beware of Long Lankin Make sure the doors are bolted well Lest Lankin should creep in."

Are there any kind of rails-to-trails initiatives in Germany?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm
David D:

And thanks, Michael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
David D:

βrian: Yes, in fact there are a few nice new bike paths of the kind in the area. Of course, many train lines continue to be in use, thankfully.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm
David D:

And then there are oddities like the one in the picture, which I just happened to come across last week. I believe it is an old mining line that may or may not still be in use.
Avatar 🚂 3:38pm
βrian:

The rail line in Flint, Michigan where I used to flatten pennies, is now a trail. Not the most appealing trail, mind you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm
David D:

I like the ones here that still have the distance markers alongside the trail.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm
Phillippe Bastille:

There's a nice one that runs from Baltimore and Annapolis. Lots of access points and plenty of places to eat and get bike parts just off the trail.
Avatar 🚂 3:46pm
βrian:

A local restaurateur had plans to build a cafe/restaurant that would be accessible only via the bike path. It never came to fruition.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm

There are a few places here that cater to bike traffic in particular, a shame that didn't work out.

It runs from Folsom (near the prison) through the foothills to downtown Sacramento, the Capitol. Parts of it are pretty sketchy, while the rest is natural beauty.
