Adriene, I am going to miss this over the summer. Have you considered keeping it rolling in podcast form?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm

Wow, I spent years looking for that Sigur Ros song which was how they ended their shows, before they finally released it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm
Booz:

I have enjoyed this show so much. Very reassuring in some way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm

Adriene, have you ever heard the FM pirates of Flatbush? Many of them broadcast in Haitian Kreyol or French. Some interfere with WFMU, in fact. You might find this interesting:

Krys O.:

I'll never forget when I dreamed in French during my six-week stay in Paris. Immersion was the best way to learn. I spoke Polish until I was three years old at home with my family and then learned how to read English.

I never listened live before, but I wanted to say goodbye, hoping you'll be back someday. Archives are not the same when the show isn't on anymore

@Krys O, it usually take me 3-5 days to remember speakable Quebecois or Mexican Spanish, so, by the time I can speak it, it's time for me to go back home....
  6:17pm
adriene:

@Ike I haven't had a chance to really explore and listen to that map yet - thanks for the recommendation the Harian Kreyol stations are definitely an incentive to start!
  6:19pm
adriene:

@ultradammo I should be back in September with new places to visit. And if you have anything you'd really like to hear on the show let me know

I'll just relax as you do dial the radio, Adriene.

Wow! Hearing that it's over for the summer, I've just now realized how much I love this program.
Thank you, Adriene, for what I think is a truly great show. I surely do hope to hear you again in the autumn.

My dad had to speak in Russian when he talked to his youngest sister who lived in Belarus. She grew up under Soviet occupation in the region of Poland that my father's family lived. I would have conversations with my parents wherein I spoke English and they spoke Polish. We understood each other.

The Eskimo people have about 100 words for snow.

I’m not kvetching the show is gone with the summer schedule, but I am happy it has existed so far. Really great radio! Thanks Adriene.

Joe Rey has 17 different words for snow (Fountains of Wayne)

Krys O, that's very cool! I've seen/heard that sort of thing in films and over the fence in the backyard. Exactly, ngh.

(because I lived on an American base), it took me almost 3 years to speak passable Japanese as a kid. So, I could only use it the last summer I was there before I went back to the States.

I'm pretty sure The Residents made up a few more for Eskimo.

The confusing part about Esperanto, is that they combine the grammar structure of so many Indo-European language families (at least it's confusing for me). The vocabulary makes sense to me.

@Krys: da! (errr.. tak!)

There's a nice dystopian series on Netflix where Poland and the Iron Curtain never falls. I've been hearing more Polish (and Russian), since I left Brooklyn.

Furbish?
Avatar 6:50pm
northguineahills:

@TDK: Cornish went extinct in the 19th c., but, some academics made dictionaries from the elderly survivors. In the 1960s, there have been efforts to revive it based on other Celtic languages (especially Welsh), and now there are a few thousand considered conversational, and it's now taught in some schools and universities...

You all are being too nice. I'm glad you've enjoyed the show (so far) I've really enjoyed sharing it with you! The show coming into this time slot is Indian Ocean World with Sonika which sounds like it will be a nice alternative.
