@coel: Just read that they travelled to Detroit/Motown and got turned down bc Motown thought they were too much like the Temptations and that would be bad for Motown. Sometimes you just can't win. Then they had trouble scraping together busfare to get home to Texas.

motown was notoious for putting all their eggs in one basket, in a given "niche". that's why the contours faded away, despite being fucking stellar. and why diana ross got pushed to the front of the supremes, even though they were better when they were all equals.
