I got some of them in Bay Ridge, some in my neighborhood, and some via discogs--this set, anyway
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm

Some of the other things we'll hear tonight also came from Paris, Geneva, and Academy Records on 18th Street, in addition to Bay Ridge and Steinway

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm
Gary:

The CD this next one comes from I found at Daff and Raff, a terrific store in Harvard Square. I think it was 1996 or 97 when I found it. The store, which sold Arabic books and records, had a short life, and was replaced by an English-language bookstore. Now, I don't know what is there. I contacted a guy who has been photographing Harvard Square for years, and he hadn't heard of the place.
Avatar 7:55pm
hyde:

i can't say i remember that place either
Avatar 7:56pm
still b/p:

I was in there once about 20 years ago. Think I picked up something ornamental, and not sure but it might be where -- extra relevance points this evening -- I got my only Oum Kalthoum recording, a cassette.

52 JFK. i think there's a tea shop there now. i remember when Harvard Square had like 10+ different bookstores. only a couple are left.

It's a shame that everything cool and out there is vanishing. :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm

Speaking of great things closing -- there used to be an Oum Kalthoum cafe in Paris. I went there one afternoon and hung out until evening ... but when I looked it up recently, I see that it's closed :(
