NGH: Good! Let me carry a bit of your load if I may
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm
Franco Twinkie:

Alan told me that one July 4th he was on acid and rode a skateboard down Edgecliff in Siverlake, a very steep street, jumped off and slid about a hundred feet standing up and he got a standing ovation from people on their front porch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm
Little Danny:

Amazing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm
Franco Twinkie:

Chresti lived on Edgecliff before we got together. She also lived on Fargo and Echo Park, The steepest street in L.A. One Easter I stopped at her house before I went over to my folks. I had a pie in the car that was cobbler after I got to the bottom of the hill.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm
Franco Twinkie:

Plasticland was also a line of little houses and building for your HO train set from Germany. They also had a set of tiny hippies that came in a little box.
Avatar 📉 Swag For Life Member 10:44pm
chresti:

I love wonderwall @coel
  10:49pm

Checking in, I read, "hippies that came in a little box." So now I'm checking out.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm

I love the concept of a tiny hippie set in a box.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm
coelacanth∅:

Franco when i was (one time i was) in san francisco i came upon the windiest road. i didn't know about it but my companion did.
is the steepest street in la windie too?
(i mean, the steepness is why the windiest was made so windie, after all)
  10:55pm
Dean:

Lombard Street, big tourist attraction
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm
coelacanth∅:

i'm imagining tiny hippies in a box making plans here:
i.pinimg.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm
Franco Twinkie:

Except for the windie part, Lombard is just a normal street with a lot of motels.
Avatar 📉 Swag For Life Member 11:00pm
chresti:

Haha coel. It strikes me counter intuitive to have hippies living in Plasticland, unless they're in jail
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm
Franco Twinkie:

Fargo is a straight drop. Laurel and Hardy rolled a piano down Fargo in one of their shorts.
Avatar 11:07pm
northguineahills:

Ok, done w/ enough dishes and bills for tonight. Now is when I try to remember what tracks in the last hour to clickystar.
  11:08pm

I always figured the L&H piano schtick was a function of George Lucas's brilliant special effects.

Well done, NGH
Avatar 11:10pm

I think I'm the only person who has only been to the SF and the Oakland airports, as the only places in the Bay Area I've been.... (at least I've visited L.A. proper [as a kid])
  11:11pm
Dean:

You've seen it all, ngh. Trust me.
Avatar 11:12pm
northguineahills:

Ok, is nova scotian whiskey new scotch? Anyways, going to take a shot anyways (crappy Canadian whiskey FTW!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
Franco Twinkie:

It was Stans job to ride the piano if I remember correctly. Maybe it was both of them. Can you imagine Ollie taking it all the way to the La Brea Tarpits then falling in?
  11:14pm
Dean:

"Can you imagine Ollie taking it all the way to the La Brea Tarpits then falling in?"

No, I can't. It would have been a mess, without question, but not a fine mess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm

Hardy har har!

Ivy Joe is underrated
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Kris Holmes: And not to be confused with Ivory Joe Hunter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm
Little Danny:

Yeah but pretty stiff competition at Motown (and Detroit in general) in those years. Hi Kris!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm
Gaylord Fields:

Or his Motown contemporary (plain ol') Joe Hunter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm
Franco Twinkie:

Dean, how about The Boston Pops blended with Destruction Derby? That I would watch.
Avatar 11:26pm
northguineahills:

Just visit piano graveyards, and give them a fitting exciting end like Ross Bolleter (the Ozzie composer who does compositions for ruined pianos).
Avatar 11:26pm
Kris Holmes:

Many people confuse Ivy & Ivory it is true
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm
coelacanth∅:

wow, just looking at pictures and reading about lombard street and now thankful it was not jammed with tourists when we were there. i don't think there was another vehicle on it at all when we drove it down. waiting in line to drive on it is not something i would've done; and being practically bumper-to-bumper on it would've taking any fun out of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm
Little Danny:

Joe Hunter? New Motown name to me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm
Gaylord Fields:

And Ivy Jo Hunter and Joe Hunter were both Motown session keyboardists at the same time, to make things even more confusing.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm

if i'm remembering correctly who i went down it with i was there in 1993, around ...august? no indication that it was a tourist attraction, except there was a sign somewhere saying it was the most crooked road on earth (something like that)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm
coelacanth∅:

gnight ngh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm
Franco Twinkie:

At the other end of Lombard by the Presidio was this place called Clown Alley. They had a machine on the counter that sold boxes of matched for a penny. I would stock up there, since I was very interested in starting fires back then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm
Little Danny:

Thanks Gaylord! Interesting that he was slightly older than a lot of his Funk Brothers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm
coelacanth∅:

ah, the good old days -when there was no shortage of unscrupulous store owners willing to sell damn-near anything to children.
  11:41pm
Dean:

San Francisco has always struck me as a bullshit town. The exceptions -- City Lights, maybe a restaurant or two, William Stout's amazing architecture bookstore -- prove the rule. I've lived a half hour away now for going on twenty years. I almost never go there, and when I do it's not because I want to.
  11:42pm
Dean:

But then Chicago bores me to tears, and Manhattan is at best quaint.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm
Little Danny:

Hahaha, Dean. You are so Dean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm

i was surprised at how snooty and spoiled the supposed "punks" were in downtown sf

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm
Little Danny:

That's poetry, Chresti
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm
Franco Twinkie:

The funny thing about that Clown Alley(there was another one in North Beach) Phil Lesh said that after a day of tripping in the woods in Marin, The Dead would stop there for burgers before a show in town.
  11:48pm
Dean:

Yeah, that's me, but it's also this independent guy who entirely agrees with me.

LA punks, in my experience, were not at all snooty. That's what I loved about the scene. Anybody ... including me! -- could be part of it, because "being part of" was acknowledged as bogus from the get-go.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm
coelacanth∅:

for the record, chicago didn't impress me either. by that i mean it was a disappointment, as i was looking forward to it.
lots and lots of "yuppies" jogging and rollerblading and clogging up the sidewalks near the trendy coffeeshops; and extremely unfriendly drivers, very impatient with someone who had tags from 1000 miles away who clearly was unfamiliar, just looking for a place to park mid-morning on a sunday -before giving up and driving toward pa.

SF is a party town. It's crazy on Halloween and New Year's eve.
