Good morning Uncle Giffy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am Doug Schulkind:

On recordings of Eastern European origin, I always gravitate to the songs with Taksim in the name. Taksim basically indicates an improvisatory jam.

Welsh Mountain Sheep are woolly jumpers. Cannot pen them in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am Doug Schulkind:

Hey ausmanx, looks like the Drummer Stream will be adding a new program from your vicinity (Melbourne). Kep your nose open for the details...

Welsh Mountain Sheep was the name of my first band in high school.

Avatar 9:45am still b/p:

Woolly Jumpers is a good name for a solo musician. So is Manx Loughtan.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:45am listener james from westwood:

It's been alternating between November and April in northern NJ. No clear sign of when it's safe to mothball one's wooly jumpers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am Doug Schulkind:

After your debut, Kep Your Nose Open, Live at Leeds!, the band really went downhill.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am Doug Schulkind:

@still b/p
The word "punk" comes from the shortening of the phrase "pun card." True story.
  10:10am Jeff g.:

An old friend of mine (my first boss, c. 1991) is doing a similar thing, @GST, sending out a postcard a day for the year. We've received two and I can say that being on the receiving end is pretty great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am Doug Schulkind:

Don't look now but I believe we are going to make it through a Kishore Kumar song where he doesn't break out yodeling. Fingers crossed we make it!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am coelacanth∅:

and of course if you count fill-ins, there's Mary Wing and Kurt Gottchalk
(not to be so contrary...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am David D:

Loving the sounds today, Doug - and all the great stream news!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am Doug Schulkind:

@coelacanth∅
Matt begged off Ichiban and joined the Drummer Stream. There may have been a brief period of overlap.

After Hurricane Sandy, the Ichiban stream remained knocked off the air for a spell and the Drummer Stream become home to some of their shows.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am Doug Schulkind:

I'm loving it that you're loving it, David D!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:40am Granny Spicy Tuna:

Have to leave shortly, with great regret, but that will mean some mercy for everyone else, with some reduction in the bad-crack quotient.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am coelacanth∅:

Doug, so some of the current drummer stream shows used to be regular ichiban stream shows? (it took a while for me to tune in to the ichiban so that easily could've happened right under my nose)
Avatar 10:44am fleep:

Disoriented yet pleasant greetings
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am Jeff Golick:

Is the rest of this Maulawi record as great?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am Doug Schulkind:

@coelacanth∅
Matt Fiveash started on Ichiban. Also Larry Grogan and Testify! got an early start with Ichiban, but soon switched over. Ichiban's programming purview is somewhat narrower and occasionally shows don't quite work over there. Me on the other hand, I am wider open to different sounds and approaches.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am Doug Schulkind:

@Jeff Golick
Email me a reminder and I will make sure you find out.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am coelacanth∅:

Doug that's interesting. Thanks.

late 2012, hurricane sandy, i was probably barely dipping my toes in the drummer stream. i only started (only because of a broken fm antenna) using the internet for wfmu in 2011.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am Doug Schulkind:

I couldn't be happier you found us, coelacanth∅!

  10:58am Mr C:

Pharaoh Sanders did an album with Norman "You Are My Starship" Connors..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am coelacanth∅:

Doug, %-wise, the drummer stream is my main! there are no shows on give the drummer radio that i don't like; which unfortunately is far from true for the main fmu.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am Jeff Golick:

Pharoah still out there blowing his horn. Though I gather he might've had some hip trouble recently?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am coelacanth∅:

Sinner Kevin, i'm like some dogs that think they're human (or cats; or black bears)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am Doug Schulkind:

@Mr C
That is one I do not own. Must rectify.
  11:02am Dave In St Alban's UK:

I agree the GTDR stream is addictive and always worth a listen BUT I like most shows on WFMU too. Lucky to have both with a sprinkling of Sheena too! Happy days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am Doug Schulkind:

Percussionist Lawrence Killian appears here and on that Norman Connors LP.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am Doug Schulkind:

Good point to make, Dave in St. Alban's UK. I love it all. WFMU is about providing options. An embarrassing wealth of options. And it is also about not trying to please everyone at all times. If something doesn't suit you, check out a different stream or dive into the archives. You are bound to find something worth your time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am coelacanth∅:

i like ichiban radio mostly, too, i think...i haven't heard some of the shows, simply because of timing; and because of the point mentioned (@10.37) i have to be in the mood. wednesday night is a great example. 2 very excellent shows.
often makes deciding difficult.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am Michael 98145:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09am Michael 98145:

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:09am listener james from westwood:

I timeshift so much these days. I catch up with Sunday shows on Monday and Tuesday. Olivia on Friday when I listen to Julie. Some I catch live, some whenever. And deep dives into our longer-tenured DJs' works (hello, Trouble, Liz, Fabio, and that lovable Schulkind scamp!). The archives and the many many options are what make my FMU pledge the easiest expenditure I have every month.
Avatar 11:10am fleep:

If you like late 60s psychedelia and loony random poetry, try The Nightowl show on Ichiban. Four hours of pure fun.
  11:11am Dave In St Alban's UK:

Oh Doug I forgot to mention to amazing archive. Not enough hours in my day and years left in my life to enjoy the thousands of hours listening in the archive as well as listen live. The station(s) and archives are a national treasure. Great show btw.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Doug Schulkind:

So true, Davd in St. Albans UK. We need more ears!
  11:14am Dave In St Alban's UK:

@fleep. Thanks for the recommendation. I shall dip into Ichiban more often.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am coelacanth∅:

i like practically everything i've heard on the night owl, the few times i tuned in to it; but i won't tune in to it! it's disturbing and i don't want to support ai.
the fringe factory, on the other hand, is pure gold!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:14am Granny Spicy Tuna:

I cannot keep up with everything i want to listen to on WFMU, it is an abundance of variety and constant discovery for me. And, yes, The Night Owl is a delicious option, and has a very strange game being played by the kooky commentators.
