Dean:

Hamza el Din at McCabe's in Santa Monica ages ago: spectacular. This album on vinyl is one of the very best recordings of live acoustic music ever. The tar rattles the air.
Avatar 10:38pm
northguineahills:

Wow, I recognized Hamza El Din's oud in the first second, and I don't even have this album!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm

"off your guard"?
(caught me off-guard anyway)
Avatar 10:39pm

@Erica: Just wait until Kurt does a whole set of Prince, then you'll really be confused!

Water Lily records, known for great sound.
  10:41pm
Dean:

I once had lunch at an Indian vegetarian restaurant in Cerritos, CA, in which the music played over the PA had a distinctive quality. I said to the proprietor, "This sounds like a Kavi Alexander recording." (He's Water Lily Acoustics.) The proprietor replied, "He was here yesterday. He gave me this promotional copy of an upcoming disk."

sweet one of my favorite family stone songs
-and strangely not included on the original release
Avatar 11:31pm
Kurt Gottschalk:

ridiculous that this live recording wasn't released at the time, when live records were king.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm
coelacanth∅:

...i meant the studio version, which was recorded during the dance to the music sessions but left off that album.
i never heard this version but it sounds like (via drjazz) it wasn't included on that original release either.

-glad to hear this. didn't even know it existed.
Avatar 11:37pm
Kurt Gottschalk:

Avatar 11:41pm
Erica:

This sounds like it could've been part of a charity record album like "We Are the World" or something like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm
doctorjazz:

I had read it was released, but hadn't heard it (more than 2 CDs these days, don't have the time or attention span...)
Avatar 11:42pm

At Yoshi's a few years ago he was ... relaxed, settled on a stool for most of the show. Glad I got to hear him. I wonder whether he'll reappear in these parts.
