That's got to be a rough job, running the post for the Khyber Mail (rather rough and unfriendly terrain).

BTW, there is a very good silent film called "Behind the Door" (1919). I saw a restoration a couple years back. Recommended...

Good evening, Brian!

Mark R:

I used to see Marcus Belgrave a lot when I lived in Detroit. He moved to NY in the late 50s and played in Ray Charles' band on some of those great Atlantic sides like "What I Say," but moved back to Detroit in the 60s and was a mentor to a lot of young guys for decades. I remember walking out of the Miles Davis "comeback" concert in 1980 behind Marcus, and he was telling the guy he was with, "If you strip away all the electric instruments behind him, Miles is still playing the same as he played back in the 50s." It was an interesting observation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm
David D:

Mark, interesting, do you think he meant it as a positive?
  3:29pm
Mark R:

Yes, definitely. He was saying, "Miles is Miles, acoustic or electric."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm
kuba:

"matki wandalki" is a great title

nothing yet, just a temp work from home job.

It's always political season over here.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm

My grandfather was a Kiwanis. These clubs and fellowships and brotherhoods often performed (perform?) the role of insurance companies and other charity work.
  5:42pm
Dean:

I do know a (perhaps by now former) member of the Lions Club. He invited me to speak at one of their meetings. Their ongoing project, of course, is the solicitation of donations of old eyeglasses. No idea what it means to "adopt" a highway.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:42pm
Michael 98145:

People voted for DJT because they saw his face on the TV.
Avatar 5:43pm
northguineahills:

Adopting a highway means for said mile adopted, you will clear the litter as a public service...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm
Webhamster Henry:

@Dean adopting a highway means you go out in clean it every few months. The Highway dept gives you the vests and little pitchforks and bags and helmets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm

The Bad Plus is still around, but not the same group it was. Ethan Anderson, their original pianist, was replaced by Orrin Evans about a year ago. I've seen the old version a few times, and have many of their albums (great band),; haven't checked out the new version yet.
  5:47pm
Dean:

I'm seeing a marketing opportunity for WFMU. Deliver branded vests to the highway departments for distribution to their volunteer agencies.

Ethan Iverson, you mean, doctorjazz.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm
Webhamster Henry:

I think WFMU should crowdfund more billboards.
The Drummer stream, Ichiban and Sheena all need their own swag too!
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:51pm
Michael 98145:

This is a great track -
Avatar 5:52pm
northguineahills:

I would suggest WFMU adopt a highway (you get a little sign as well), and put a billboard there, but NJ litter is hazmat material, I wouldn't want our friends picking it up....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm
doctorjazz:

@Dean, yup, stand corrected, happens when I try enter things quickly, and I'm using my phone. My bad (apologies to Ethan Iverson).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm
David D:

Thanks for the background information and ideas, everyone. Maybe the WFMU Friendship Society can put up signs for when you enter townships, etc.
  5:59pm
Dean:

I see what you did there, doc.

Wearing a WFMU t-shirt in a neighborhood Whole Foods (yeah, I know, evil), I was asked by a worker what it meant. He thought perhaps Whole Foods Management University.

over the weekend, on the way home, I stopped on the turnpike at one og the gas stations (one every 60km) w/ about 7km of gas left. Well, my gas cap wouldn't spring open. So, using my seatbelt, and the Philips head screwdriver I had, I levered it open. Now, just fiddling w/ it w/ just vague idea I was doing, it, looks like I fixed it for good.
