WHBI (i think in Newark?) had Earl Chinn and another reggae DJ (i am embarrassed that i am spacing out in his name!) . . . a bit later DJ Scratchie had a very late night show too . .

	7:40pm slugluv1313: @ Linda Lee -- i think Johnny Nash's "I Can See Clearly Now" and Dave and Ansil Collins' "Double Barrel" were my introduction to reggae when i was in grammar school/junior high . . . then "The Harder They Come" . . . and i believe it was Lester Bangs (who even as a kid, i thought was kind of a jerk) did a series of articles about the recording studios in Jamaica . . . i wanted to go live there (right? some goofy white kid from the NJ suburbs?!!)

March 19, 2019: DENNIS BOVELL (Matumbi) & BRINSLEY FORDE (Aswad) on the 1980 film BABYLON
Dennis Bovell & Brinsley Forde discuss the first U.S. theatrical release of Franco Rosso's 1980 British film "Babylon" starring Forde as a dancehall DJ in Thatcher-era South London pursuing his musical ambitions while battling the xenophobia of employers, neighbors, police and the National Front. Written by Martin Stellman (Quadrophenia) with cinematography by two-time Oscar winner Chris Menges (The Killing Fields/The Mission), the incendiary film is set to a reggae, dub and lovers rock score by Bovell. Special thanks to Gabriele Caroti (Seventy-Seven) and Jonathan Hertzberg (Kino Lorber) for arranging this interview! Check Kino Lorber's site for screenings near you.
