Dick Dale did a great station ID promo for a station I DJed at in Michigan called WIDR. It went "This is Dick Dale - King of the Surf Guitars. Jimi Hendrix, he came to me. He's dead! Keith Moon - he's dead! They're all dead! Hey, I don't play no woodsy strings!"
Avatar 12:28pm wowow:

Great tribute Joe. RIP Hal and Dick Dale. Just saw Dennis play Saturday night at the Opera House in Valparaiso, IN. Excellent show. Salut!

Did Hal Blaine play on the Mr Gasser and the Weirdos records?
  1:03pm DA The DJ:

Loving the instrumentals!
  1:03pm Dustin:

I think "Mr. Eliminator" would be a great name for a Dick Dale tribute band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Mike Sin:

Great discussion, Joe and Dennis! What always amazed me about Hal Blaine was, given his background and points of reference regarding drum playing, his ability to adapt and play in such a "young" straight-ahead style that really evolved in the mid-'60s. The Paul Revere and the Raiders' records bear this out -- the drums sound like an excited, solid 4-to-bar "kid" laying down the beat, not a veteran drummer pushing 40 with a strong jazz background. He not only knew how to play, but he really seemed to have a grasp of what the music was supposed to convey mood and dynamics-wise.
  1:05pm Tim from LH:

Great show!
  1:06pm DA The DJ:

Clear records!
Avatar 1:07pm randyfrommichigan:

@Mike Sin well said
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Goyim in the AM:

That's for sure the deal with a lot of Carol Kaye's discog assertions, but don't tell her that!

Hal is there at the end of the Mamas and Papas set in the Monterey Pop film, although Eddie Hoh plays with the Mamas and Papas, Hal joins in at the end
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Matt Fiveash:

Hey Dennis- dunno if you're seeing the comments, but is that Hal on "The Worryin' Kind" by Tommy Sands? Lovin' this show, you guys, it pairs well with a marathon finale hangover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Michael 98145:

This is so great. Thank you.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 1:19pm tim from champaign:

My girlfriend and I are seeing Ronnie at the end of May. I'm super stoked!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm The Oscar:

This song is so sad when you consider Ronnie married Phil Spector :(
Avatar 1:25pm randyfrommichigan:

@johnk77 I listened to The Big 8 CKLW Windsor when I moved to Sarnia Canada in '81, was great top 40 but then they changed format in early 80's as FM took over Top 40

Are those vibes or piano that comes in at the end of Baby I Love You? A great touch
  1:36pm John from Florham Park:

Well guys this is a great show wish it would go on till midnight and it is one of the reasons why I love this station all the DJS know their stuff and the cat rooms have people in there who really know a lot of things and love to chat each other, I really wish I had the money to give this year but I can’t
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 1:40pm tim from champaign:

Dennis, are you playing with Ronnie at the show in Edmonds, WA in May?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Aaron in Minneapolis:

John from Florham Park: You give us your presence, thats enough for us.
Avatar 1:44pm Listening Out There:

On Friday, NPR Fresh Air reran their Hal Blaine interview. He described endings where he'd typically go into triplets....

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Kelly Jones:

'Wouldn't It Be Nice' is my favorite Beach Boys song...
  1:50pm John from Florham Park:

@Aaron they reason why I asked is because I don’t really listen to NPR all that much anymore, just not into them anymore
Avatar 1:50pm Joe B:

Dennis will be at edmonds!

1:59pm Michael from the Left Coast:

my favorite of all the Hal Blaine jokes
  2:00pm Charmin' Larman:

Digging the show. Around 40 years ago I had this crummy job taking phone orders for greeting cards that where printed on big banners. Hal Blaine calls up one day. He was elated and surprised that I recognized him. I told him I was big fan. Out of the blue he sent me an autographed photo of him with Count Basie. Unfortunately the photo is long lost from moving. It kills me.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 2:04pm tim from champaign:

@KFHP hell no
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Aaron in Minneapolis:

@john, look at the numbers.....
  2:08pm John from Florham Park:

@Aaron I did and I never play the lotto
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 2:12pm tim from champaign:

I mean no disrespect to other "non-commercial" stations, but if this conversation was on any other station it would be a few minutes long, slickly produced and only focus on the biggest of big Hal Blaine songs. Then it would be followed by a Ford hybrid SUV grant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Aaron in Minneapolis:

Or a promo for the Herman Miller Aeron chair
  2:15pm John from Florham Park:

@tim your right even with NPR they would do the same thing then go to a underwriter type thing
  2:16pm SeanG:

WINDY
