Love hearing totally new music with big wide open spaces inside - just waiting to be explored live

Jeff! We're here. This Wm. Tyler has a very similar riff to a John Prine song called I Wish You all the Best
  12:18am
rw:

Very nice.

Freshly washed and ready to relax...Hey Jeff!

Franco, you smell nice.

Thanks, RW. And thanks for suggesting chili, It really came together.

Good evening! Got home a little later than planned but really enjoying this set.
  12:25am
rw:

Con carne or veggie? Either way I'm sure it was great. Perfect chili day. Plus I can't imagine making corn bread without chili.
  12:27am
rw:

We stuffed ourselves on homemade tacos this evening. We've been figuring out how to make tortillas. Pretty simple. Don't know why we never had before.

Making elote a la parilla con mayo, limon, queso de cortija, y tejin. (chili/lime salt)

@Franco: I, too, just showered....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31am
Franco Twinkie:

Grass fed beef, slowly braised. I couldn't get home fast enough tonight to eat some.

Flour or corn? I like to do both. Corn is more difficult, but worth it. I get my masa from this Mexican market in Pasadena where they grind the corn to order.
Avatar 12:34am
northguineahills:

@Franco: just corn on the cob....(the only Spanish I know is from my wife, and futbol, which she hates).

Every time I hear something from Michael Chapman it makes me want to seek out more.

this has the melody of these days by Jackson Browne
  12:38am
rw:

Sounds delicious FT! Seems like you're light years ahead of us. We just started about a week ago with corn flour. Maybe I should try flour.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39am
Franco Twinkie:

NGH. We use to live next door to a soccer(futbol)field, where teams from all over Mexico would kick it. Afterwards, it was a sea of elotes in the parkway and street.
  12:40am
rw:

ngh, you can get corn this time of year? And I'm going to stop talking about food now...
  12:41am
Steubs:

Jeff!! Thanks for coming by tonight to listen tonight! Back at home grooving out to this!

I lived in Japan for ~2 years in the mid-00's, and have a somewhat complicated relationship with the place. It's a crazy/amazing place, but it was a somewhat difficult time for me. Hearing amazing Japanese folk/psych like this is always interesting to me since it was just so far away from the experience I had over there (mostly driven by work).
Avatar 12:47am
northguineahills:

@Franco: When I met her, she lived next to the stadium in Monterrey (Nuevo Leon), and saw the worst of football fan behavior, which turned her off to the sport. Then she met a gringo who's a soccer nut, and she's still not sure how that happened.

@Erik: I lived in Japan for 3 years, although I was a kid...
  12:47am
rw:

Erik, yeah, that Makoto Kubota was pretty great. I liked the amalgam of styles. May have to look that one up...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49am
Franco Twinkie:

Yes, Harina is much easier. Corn doesn't have much gluten it seems, so it's harder to keep them it one piece. But it just takes practice. You want to be humbled and encouraged, just go to Cinco Puntos next to the graveyard in East L.A. and watch the way the pros slap them out by hand.
Avatar 12:49am
Erik in Michigan:

Dire Wolves just keep putting out incredible stuff
Avatar 12:50am
Jeff Conklin:

Did anybody hear any distortion on the Japanese track?
  12:51am
rw:

FT, My daughter has been spending time in Oaxaca. She says it's amazing how they make tortillas by hand there. I tried tonight but just made a mess.

Jeff, none that I noticed but I've got the volume pretty low.
Avatar 12:55am
northguineahills:

@Franco: when it comes to anything Mexi cooking (except meat), I'm a pro, just ask my wife. She taught me the ropes, and I perfected it.

@rw:Oaxaca has the best food in Mexico, IMHO. I just got some chili crickets and queso Oaxaca, and intend to make huitlacoche/potato soup next weekend.
  12:56am
Steubs:

No distortion on this end prior to wolves

Erik in Michigan:

Phish is in a good zone right now - definitely worth seeing, but I get it that in NYC it's a kinda crazy ticket.

Really loved this '79 show. I'm doing the listen along thing and stoked to get into 79 more. There's some really great stuff in 78-early 79, but it does kinda feel like they were ready for some new blood (easy to say in hindsight).
  1:12am
Jeff Conklin:

Jerry’s so on. Great audience recording too. No SBD of this set circulates.
  1:14am
Jeff Conklin:

Yeah I heard some stuff from the MSG run that sounded great. Honestly, part of what phish was for me was the road tripping. Not too interested in ever seeing a show at MSG again. Wanted to hit the Maine shows this summer but it’s not gonna happen
  1:15am
Jeff Conklin:

Keith is really on auto pilot I think that’s why Jerry is lighting it up so much
Avatar 1:17am
Erik in Michigan:

Keith in this era was really show to show - and the band kind of reacted in different ways to it. here, it's like Jerry just decided to take over
Avatar 1:18am
Erik in Michigan:

finally had his voice back too
Avatar 1:19am
Erik in Michigan:

I have tickets to see Phish @ Alpine Valley this summer, but that place seems like a massive pain in the ass so i'm sorta questioning it
Avatar 1:20am
Jeff Conklin:

I'd love to see a show at Alpine. I actually got offered free tickets to the NYE show and such is my disdain for Manhattan and NYE, I declined....
Avatar 1:20am
mb:

Camden is a great urban road trip. I do 2 shows a year. Always get my moneys worth. Phish #1.

Phil is sitting in the pocket nicely from the start. Filling in the blanks.
Avatar 1:21am
Jeff Conklin:

Camden is fine if youre not trying to get there from North Brooklyn on a Friday afternoon of a summer holiday weekend. Almost abandoned my car on Canal street en route to DeadCo last summer.
Avatar 1:26am
Erik in Michigan:

The AUD tapes starting getting really good around this era, at least most consistently
Avatar 1:28am
mb:

DJ JC will you ever do Phish sets like you do Dead sets here later in your career? Keep in mind the core fan base is not getting any younger.
Avatar 1:29am
Jeff Conklin:

What core fan base? Phish's or mine? Ha.

I don't see that happening but you never know....

hey Jeff, just catching up with the show. Having listened to both Trees LPs yesterday, and remembering how good they are, it's a pleasure to have my ears filled with "Nothing Special" one more time. The rest of the show looks very promising too!
