The signal was mostly static, but once in a while I could pick up Wolfman Jack on XERB from across the border. I learned patience from that little piece of red plastic.

I was operating AND hosting (and answering the station door remote release/intercom, and the on-air phone line). And I had to operate the kettle sometimes on top of that...but a hotspot in the mix, dayum. That's next level risk management.

Consider, for example, "retarded," the use of which from 1974 or so has massively declined, due in part, I suspect, from disapproval. The use of the s-word, OTOH, has increased since about 1970. (This all per Google's ngram viewier, hence caveat.) I suspect this is due in part to, e.g., the rise of second wave feminism, which for some unfathomable reason pisses off a lot of people.

The signal was mostly static, but once in a while I could pick up Wolfman Jack on XERB from across the border. I learned patience from that little piece of red plastic.

I was operating AND hosting (and answering the station door remote release/intercom, and the on-air phone line). And I had to operate the kettle sometimes on top of that...but a hotspot in the mix, dayum. That's next level risk management.

Consider, for example, "retarded," the use of which from 1974 or so has massively declined, due in part, I suspect, from disapproval. The use of the s-word, OTOH, has increased since about 1970. (This all per Google's ngram viewier, hence caveat.) I suspect this is due in part to, e.g., the rise of second wave feminism, which for some unfathomable reason pisses off a lot of people.
