Amazingly, I picked up a CD of Kismet (the Alfred Drake original) by the Brooklyn library sale for a dollar

one of the best resources that both the Oakland and the nearby Berkeley public libraries each have (not sure if SF and/or NYC PL have too) are tool lending libraries - since most people only use certain tools once for a specific job - and to go buy that tool is a waste of money

Wow, that is awesome. Should automatically convert any libertoonian.

hey Bronwyn B thanks for playing Gryphon last week and for your consistently refreshingly diverse and adventurous playlists each week on FMU
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24am

I haven't checked that out, but I was curious about it cos I have been riding past the tool library on Telegraph for about 10 years. Libraries! TLA were just saying they are like the Room of Requirement in them Harry Potter books.
Avatar 3:27am
Billy Jam:

@diciassette - you should stop in there to the OPL on Telegraph near 51st to the tool library section in back of building - that's the sole tool library in the Oakland system as far as I know - and the people who work in the tool library - are all really cool - good taste in music - they listen to KALX on the radio in there - and are extremely helpful with guidance on tools that they loan out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35am

Will do, Billy Jam.

Also KALX is swell. Did you'll know that Zoe B started there?
Avatar 3:40am
BronwynB:

@Billy: thanks so much for listening and for the kind words! it means a lot coming from you since your show is one of the best on FMU :D
Avatar 3:42am
Billy Jam:

@Bronwyn B - thank YOU - @ diciassette - no I did not know that re Zoe B at KALX - but many at FMU started out there including myself, (former FMU DJ) Jeffrey Cobb and $mall Change + station manager Ken is a friend of the station and his legal IDs are aired on it regularly - Also tragicallyt four folks from KALX perished in the Ghost Ship fire a year ago
  3:50am
Adam West Coaster:

@Billy Jam, were you at KALX during the Anthony Bonet era? Miss talking to that cat! Used to know him when I worked at Sub Pop...for a minute.

Yo B....very diverse play list....dug the show tunes....play some more Gryphon please....

The first version of Happy Talk I heard was by Nancy Wilson, which is still my favorite. Also, her version of Never Will I Marry, which is a big deal for me because Babs also did it at the Bon Soir in 1962.
Avatar 4:07am
BronwynB:

hi david! no gryphon or floyd planned for this show but def later shows :D
Avatar 4:08am
BronwynB:

i'll have to check those out diciassette!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11am
diciassette:

Babs at the Bon Soir is kind of a bootleg. They'd intended it to be the Barbra Streisand album, but the sound wasn't what they wanted (and it was also a bit chaotic, but in a good sort of way if you ask me). The herringbone suit she wears on the cover, that she made herself, is from those shows.

Interesting story: "Five Bridges" production had been financed by Immediate Records when the label already was more than bankrupt. Caused by the trouble the masters were -with help of the group- kind of hijacked by the founder of Charisma Records. Can be that is even the very fiurst Charisma Records release. dont remember exactly. Early Hipgnosis cover art, one of the first not dedicated to pink Floyd.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50am
Guido from Cologne:

Tony Stratton Smith is the Charisma guy.
"Five Bridges" made it to rank 2 of the album charts in Britain.
Commonplace that it was a kind of ignition for Charisma.
Just checked it up in a magazne. Tony Stratton Smith is the Charisma founder.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06am
Guido from Cologne:

it was a prophecy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07am
Guido from Cologne:

The Ides of March (/aɪdz/; Latin: Idus Martiae, Late Latin: Idus Martii)[1] is a day on the Roman calendar that corresponds to 15 March. It was marked by several religious observances and was notable for the Romans as a deadline for settling debts.[2] In 44 BC, it became notorious as the date of the assassination of Julius Caesar which made the Ides of March a turning point in Roman history.
