So, I'm wondering whether this is in fact a string of palindromes rather than one long one, which is what I understood from last week.

Do Good etc. was pretty amazing, but I'm not going to check if it really was a palindrome.

Good morning everyone. Have missed being in your company!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am

@Sem! Great to see you.

@LG: that's a fair question. It did sound like that, but I'm not one to judge palindromes. That's best left to...the...dog-gods?
  9:46am
Listener Gregory:

Wait, if you string together a bunch of palindromes, and then invert them, you have one long palindrome... This is *blowing my mind*.

@fred: yes, I'd say so.

@Doug: school me on some Pee Wee!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:21am
Peter from DE:

I feel like Robinson was always there but under the radar. First really registered with me very late -- William Parker's Bob's Pink Cadillac. And then I realized he was all over the place: Henry Grimes, the Liberation Music Orchestra, Annette Peacock
Avatar 🥁 10:24am
hyde:

if i have one job on WFMU, it's to bring up Jimmy Giuffre when jazz clarinetists come up
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:24am
Doug Schulkind:

The poet Philip Larkin on Pee Wee Russell: "No one familiar with the characteristic excitement of his solos, their lurid, snuffling, asthmatic voicelessness, notes leant on till they split, and sudden passionate intensities, could deny the uniqueness of his contribution to jazz."
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:26am
doctorjazz:

Really have a thing for Pee Wee Russell as well, great tone and approach, slightly demented (in a good way), playing Dixieland/Austin Street Gang music but always subverting it
Saw Robinson way back in one of the NY Lofts when that was how new jazz was being presented.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am

Thanks, @hyde! It's reassuring to know you're covering the Giuffre beat.

@Peter: Yes, agreed. When PR showed up, good things happened. I feel as though there's no "late" in this context, though I understand the feeling. We come to these artists when we do, when we can...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29am

@Doug, brave to quote Larkin on jazz (though a great quote).

I'm listening through headphones and this mix is crazy (bass hard left, drums hard right). Making me wonder if there was an ESP "sound" across their releases -- if you don't hear from me for weeks it's b/c i'm down that hole. If anyone has any knowledge that will save me, please speak up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am
Jeff Golick:

Noticed the same, @Peter. I don't know if there's an ESP, sound, per se, because often Stollman just got tapes from the musicians.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:28am

I suspected that most ESPs were produced by the musicians.
