Hey! I bought a copy of this Paris to Calcutta. Can't decide whether to give it as a Xmas gift or keep for myself. It's pretty great.

tak, funny you should say that (@12.37) i just now got an email from spotify that says i've listened to 13,341 different songs so far this year (& i've listened to some songs many times); and i only listen to music i look for. i've never listened to their "stations".
i also listen to tapes and cds and use bandcamp a lot. (i don't listen to my records because my floor's too shaky where i am)
...and i worked a full day today and yesterday so you just happen to have checked in when i did.
...i do choose my own music and i hope you do too. when i can i let Nick Name choose my music because i know i'll like it. that's my choice.

i have my own extensive criminal record, it's okay i understand you 100%. i'm on a different time zone and i work two jobs, sometimes on the same day (like today).

okay i did think it wasn't that long ago i saw you here!
  1:11am

you made it sound like i was attacking you or something with that point by point explanation, and the choose music thing was a joke. i've been following this wfmu night shift for a few weeks, first time i tuned in i heard a friend playing so that's when they got me. i can either choose a thing i know i'm going to listen to, or switch on to a kickass dj who will play something from a friend or someone i've met or worked with a while ago and be ~pleasantly surprised~. which is a great mindset to listen to new stuff i never heard of (most of this)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14am
coelacanth∅:

i did think it was a dig! ("attack" would be too strong a word)
anyway i'm glad you found wfmu. my guess is you were going to eventually no matter what.

coel, my calculator says that's 39.35 songs per day. At approx. three minutes per song that's about 2 hours a day.

Just, you know, because my calculator phone was sitting here and I was curious. I don't have Spotify. My kids want me to sign up though. I guess there's an option to share playlists or something.

rw it's a whole lot more than that!
but some days i don't use it at all; like thursdays, when after noon wfmu programming is 100% excellent (until noon is okay) -until at least 6am friday. then there are days that wfmu ends for me at 2 or noon or whatever.

cc, I feel lucky to be on the west coast. The programming I'm least interested in happens when I'm out at work. The best stuff (LIKE RIGHT NOW!) would be too late for me if I were east coast.

+16 hrs here. The weirder stuff played late for you is my work music on your next day. I avoid the talk shows, but WFMU my go-to working music otherwise, curated, I don't have to choose.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39am
coelacanth∅:

i'm with ya on that rw! i've been trying (& somewhat successfully) to get to sleep earlier and it sucks that i don't get to hear certain shows as much as before. (although, as it turns out, there are more overnight shows now than ever before that i'm NOT interested in) i have also noticed that certain shows that were on between mn & 6am that have moved to daytime are not nearly as good as they were before, which bums me out. the hosts talk a lot more and even play different music. sad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42am
coelacanth∅:

there are some stellar "weird" music shows on in the day (here) too though. like Fabio & Bryce and Scott McDowell...others...

Aitch, half my job is at home on the computer at night. I don't know how I'd be able to sit here this long without something like FMU. Nick's show in particular. Thursday night is always the most productive! Thank you Nick! I owe you.

Your Sunday, my Monday the best run for me until Jeff Conklin turns up and binges Grateful Dead ay my 4pm. I love Jeff, followed him over to WFMU from his former home at EVR. Not keen on the Dead though, as much as he hates Ween that I like.

Aitch, I seem to remember JC's show being more noisy at the beginning. Does that seem right to you? I don't mind him playing the Dead hour but I don't share the enthusiasm either.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58am
Aitch:

He had 2 shows on EVR. One Bring Out Your Dead, like all Dead and another he did called Just Music which was all psyche and noise and mental. That was the one I listened to. Been checking all that for about 15 years so I like to tease him. Request Ween, or Buck's Fizz, he'll hate it.

Nick should do a Weasel Walter hour.
