Ex roommate & I painted our syracuse place in high-contrasting electric pink + royal blue. One room had pink walls & blue trim, the next room had the reverse. The effect of this would make you violently ill if you ran through the place with eyes wide open.

It may be a troll, but such attitudes still persist. I sometimes go out of my way to visit rural bars just to explore, 98% of the people I meet are awesome (like the redneck gay bar near my office), but every once in while, I'll meet someone so odious I'll leave. sometimes I reply ambiguously so they think I'm one of "them", just to see what their real opinion is (I can do an authentic Southern accent). Heck, I was tailgating for an college American football game, and some older men (college educated) let the dog-whistles fly when I said I don't watch the NFL (for me, the league is too predictable and boring [and I prefer futbol, anyways])

Wow, the Beatles and Dylan in one WFMU show. Stones, anyone?

convoy_pt2: I share your concern about the racist caller, but the recording was presented in a context - a past radio show with DJ Lassiter not agreeing; and with our comments board here obviously not. WFMU takes its irony pill if not daily, often.

Is this a Leonard Cohen ditty? If not it sounds like one!

This is the problem with America. Over sensitive about everything. Hate to break the news but racism and other forms of hate will always exist. It’s part of the human condition. It perpetuates generation to generation. Anyone who thinks this world will ever be a utopia can forget it. Even utopian societies aren’t perfect.

ngh i do that as well; i'll talk to anyone in the bar (if i'm in the mood to talk to anyone at all, that is) but it does sometimes end up with me telling them i'm not talking with them anymore because they're closed-minded assholes. usually then they leave because by then they'd thought they found a comrade and now their feelings are hurt. (which is good for everyone - including them, for their own safety's sake)

I don’t want a utopia, but I would like to enjoy good bagels, pizza and tacos in peace.
