I’ve listened to Three Chord Monte for over twenty years without knowing the source of the introductory soundbyte “What’s the matter, Joe, you got all those opinions and you can’t pick a record [etc.]” until I watched that 1970 Peter Boyle flick a few days ago.
Though I saw a heavily censored, commercial-interrupted version on a portable b/w TV in the early 80’s, I didn’t remember those lines. Nor, on that first viewing, did I recognize Susan Sarandon in her screen debut. Strange.

Correct. Boyle played a sinister precursor to Archie Bunker. Back in the pre-infomercial days, late night television showed a lot of films from that era. Much footage was edited out, but it was the only option for we with no access to cable or home video.
