I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Afternoon, Mayuko and all!
Avatar 12:06pm

Thank you for tuning in, Mark!! Good afternoon, james!!!

Hey Mayuko and fellow Listenerds!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm
fred:

Yesterday I saw Sax Ruins play in the basement of a bar, free entrance and just an empty beer glass for donations. Weird that they couldn't get a bigger venue
Avatar 12:11pm
Mayuko:

Hi Dropof! Hope your Saturday is going well!
Avatar 12:18pm
Mayuko:

@fred I have a feeling that Yoshida san is used to that kind of situation. Though I agree he deserves much bigger audience!
  12:22pm
Joe McG:

Mayuko, my birthday is January 14th, so I like that you played the Maher Shalal Hash Bas album. And Saboten! Sounding great today, as always. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
fred:

Good for me though, I only heard about it a couple of days ago, I'd probably have missed it in a regular venue. And I really like Sax Ruins, even more than Ruins
Avatar 12:26pm
Mayuko:

@Joe McG AND YOU WERE BORN IN 1989!!!!!!!!
Avatar 12:27pm
Mayuko:

@Joe McG also is it you who talks over Penguin Café Orchestra sometimes? I just cannot remember who does it or does it only exist in my imagination entirely?
Avatar 12:29pm
Mayuko:

@fred That's cool! I never seen any of Ruins live - should have when I was in Japan. They must be great live.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Greetings, Vertigophers! Everyone digging out of the snow?
Avatar 12:34pm
Mayuko:

Hi Ken! Snow is all gone in south Brooklyn it seems.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm
Mark Hurst:

Mayuko - yes I think one of the DJs uses PCO for their bed music but I can't remember who - is it you, Joe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm
fred:

He seems to tour quite a lot, so you should get a chance to fix that. I highly recommend the "Japanese New Music Festival" tours, with Makoto Kawabata and Atsushi Tsuyama. Many different projects and a lot of fun. Last time I saw them they even did a silent set in mime
  12:37pm
Joe McG:

@Mayuko and Mark: No, I think it's a good idea though. I can't remember which DJ does it! (This Richard Youngs is great.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm
Dropof Goldensun:

@Mayuko - Saturday is going well thanks! A bit busy so can't chat much at the moment. Love the show so far though!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm
Mark Hurst:

Just popped into mind - I think it's Irwin who uses PCO as bed music, and I think it's a loop from "More Milk."
Avatar 12:42pm
Mayuko:

@fred That sounds great but I think my new policy is to avoid shows of middle-aged Japanese men with long hair. Yoshida san got a short haircut so I still must see his show.

(JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Avatar 12:43pm
Mayuko:

(I actually don't know if he still has short haircut nowadays.)
Avatar 12:43pm
Mayuko:

@Dropof Glad to know you're enjoying the music!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm

He had yesterday, so that's a safe bet for a while
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm
coelacanth∅:

hi Mayuko and Vertiglobes
Avatar 12:45pm

@Mark ahh! I think you're right!! And it is indeed the loop of More Milk.
Avatar 12:45pm
Mayuko:

@fred good! haha!!

Hi coelacanth∅! Thanks for tuning in!

I've never heard Fluence before, Mayuko, it's lovely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm

...i thought your program title was "get confused too easily so fall in Love again". both apply to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm
fred:

So no Keiji Haino show in your future? I wish I could see him again
Unrelated: I just figured out I'm wearing the zombie T-shirt today
Avatar 12:48pm
Mayuko:

@Joe McG Yeah! it's an alias of Pascal Comelade.
  12:49pm
Joe McG:

@Mayuko: Ah! I had no idea.
Avatar 12:49pm
Mayuko:

@coelacanth∅ yes, I suppose that happens a lot too.
Avatar 12:51pm
Mayuko:

@Joe McG I wouldn't have either if it didn't come in this Pascal Comelade box set Vinyl-On-Demand put out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm

You nailed it, Mayuko!

safely listening in la! on itunes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm
Dropof Goldensun:

The 14th is a Monday and the 10th (my birthday) is a Thursday. So I think the party for Joe and I should be right in the middle, which just happens to be Saturday the 12th! ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm
fred:

Maybe that artist could contact Satoko, she's been active about that disaster since it happened, and has publishing contacts. Looks like the FB page is here: www.facebook.com...
Feel free to contact me if that's not enough to put them in touch
Avatar 1:11pm
Mayuko:

@fred oh yay! I'm making progress!
Avatar 1:12pm
Mayuko:

@chresti oh I'm glad! thank you for letting me know!!
Avatar 1:14pm
Joe B:

Hey Mayuko and listeners! I'm listening safely here in LA as well.
Avatar 1:17pm
Mayuko:

@Dropof I need to start looking into experimental birthday songs for that occasion!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm

excellent show today

Flight to Japan this week. hate cold weather over there.
Avatar 1:18pm
Mayuko:

@fred I don't know this artist in person, but I'll take a look at the FB page later anyway, I'd like to see it. I wasn't there when it happened so I have no idea how things have been myself. Hoping to visit north next time I'm going back there.
  1:19pm
JakeGould:

Hey Mayuko! Listening safely in Brooklyn. What is happening in California is crazy. And—small compared to that—but some of my coworkers took 8 hours to get home in that storm that hit NYC this past week.
  1:20pm
Welsh Rarebit:

Hey, everyone. Hope you’re doing well wherever you are.
Avatar 1:20pm
Mayuko:

@Joe B That's good! Thanks so much for letting me know!!!
Avatar 1:21pm
Mayuko:

Thank you for kind words, Mark!!!
Avatar 1:22pm
Mayuko:

@zMzzm better than NYC cold weather since they got hot springs and public bathhouses over there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm
Dropof Goldensun:

Mayuko I was only joking but... Experimental birthday songs sounds kinda interesting.
Avatar 1:23pm
Mayuko:

@Jake 8 hours!!!! Was it MTA using the storm as excuse, or really the storm?
Avatar 1:23pm
Mayuko:

Hi Welsh! Thanks for tuning in and i hope the same!!
  1:23pm
JakeGould:

They live in Westchester and nothing worked.
Avatar 1:25pm
Joe B:

@Mayuko Of course, thanks for thinking of all of us!
Btw I think my concert policy is somehow the opposite of yours -- if there is a Japanese dude over 45 with long, flowing hair doing something on a stage, chances are I'm gonna be in the audience!
Avatar 1:27pm
Mayuko:

@Dropof I dunno if they exist, but if I can imagine it, they must have been done by someone elses already.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm
fred:

I like this Jlin track
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm
Dropof Goldensun:

Mayuko, that's always the case. Many times I've written a song only to find out it was a little too inspired by another artist!
Avatar 1:39pm
Mayuko:

@Joe B Haha! My new policy was established when I saw Tamio Shiraishi (ex Fushitsusha) show in New York. He looked totally dad-like, dressed super ordinary, clean white sneakers and ordinary short haircut. And then he played that CRAZY saxophone. I thought that should become the new trend of Japanoise/experimental scene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm
Dropof Goldensun:

I haven't heard Cupol "for ages"!!
Avatar 1:44pm
Mayuko:

@Dropof I'll look for some industrial noise bday songs, and drone bday songs, collage bday songs etc.
Avatar 1:46pm
Joe B:

@Mayuko Hahaha! I think the dad look is good if you can do something totally crazy and unexpected like that.
About the birthday songs, my friends and I actually used to have a tradition of making experimental birthday-themed music pieces for each other on our birthdays. It's a great gift idea!
Avatar 1:50pm
geezerette:

Hello, Mayuko and all!
Love what you're playing! Have to listen from the top in archive.
Avatar 1:51pm
Mayuko:

@Joe B That IS a fantastic idea! That's what we all should try! Especially since it's so much easier recording things these days, using the phone.

Cool show today! Any good art on display in Sunset Park lately? I’m feeling lazy and don’t want to go very far, ha ha.

Hey, Ike! La Bodega has some humourous "Shadow Pet" show by Miguel Ayuso, looks pretty good. www.labodega-gallery.com

Alternatively, hawks are eating squirrels in Greenwood cemetery, which is pretty amazing to see.
Avatar 1:57pm
Mayuko:

@Dropof maybe I should get those bday songs from listeners!!

Thanks Mayuko! I’ll check that out. And in bird news, I saw a stunned woodcock just chilling on the sidewalk yesterday near Green-Wood. I hope the hawks didn’t get it.

Ike:

Does Micah know about this? LOL
Avatar 2:03pm

Thanks, Fred! We're safe here in the city. We have a dear friend who lived in the town of Paradise. He got out safely but the town was leveled.
Our skies were dark with smoke for days, much better now. Still un breathable in SF though.

Listening to the show on a Monday out of the archives. Missed it Saturday, went to visit my father at the retirement facility -- it's his 91st birthday this week.
