In Big Sur we saw a Raven flying with a croissant in its beak.
We've also watched a kitten and a Raven playing together like best friends. Never seen one tagging with a sharpie but wouldn't surprise me at all.

@coel- me too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm
coelacanth∅:

...on the scenic overlook points somewhere in i think it was colorado the ravens liked to hang out, it seems. they may have been interested in food but they weren't pushy and just hung out next to me. i didn't even have any food and there were other people there who might've.
so that was my totem for the time being.
...many people don't realise that you may have a main totem your whole life; or your totem can change at stages in your life...and you can have "lesser" or secondary totems that are more short term, such as during a crisis or change - along with the "main" totem.
...it seems very silly but there are things certain people would benefit from learning from the ant! i have doubts that it's anyone's lifelong totem though.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:14pm
chresti:

geeze- it's a french thing
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:15pm
chresti:

I respect ants because they eat termites
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm
coelacanth∅:

they also protect peonies from other insects. (though it's only in their best interest!)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:17pm
david w:

The Edward O. Wilson book on ants. Stunningly fabulous.
Avatar 4:19pm
`:

Thanks, Chresti.
Ants are fascinating.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm
coelacanth∅:

(not that i especially like peonies!)
- that's something to put on my list, david.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:21pm
david w:

Thanks, coel. Suddenly I'm taking all this more seriously.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm
Stanley:

Quietly, listening and digging. This piece is bonkers good.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:23pm
chresti:

ants also help figs ripen
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm
coelacanth∅:

chresti i've read that but i don't remember how they do that.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:28pm
david w:

Stanley! Yes, Thurston really brings it here. So tuned in to the moment.
Avatar 4:29pm
northguineahills:

Always dig Thurston.
Avatar 4:31pm
northguineahills:

I had ants herding and milking aphids in my garden. I ordered some ladybugs, and they still were able to take care of the aphids even w/ the ants guarding them.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:33pm
chresti:

they enter a tiny opening, at the bottom of the fruit, which stirs things up , making it possible for the fig to fertilize itself-something like that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm
coelacanth∅:

that alltotems.com thing is pretty ridiculous though. "when you encounter the ant..."! ...yes on that rare, unprecedented occasion that you encounter an ant you obviously need to step up your confidence!
- i encounter thousands of ant many days...but also wasps, spiders, bees, chipmunks, dogs, beetles, squirrels, woodpeckers, stinkbugs.......all my totems i guess!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:34pm
chresti:

you can get the same result by inserting a toothpick and turning it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm
coelacanth∅:

i've read about wasps fertilizing figs, and being an internal flower, they do get stuck in there sometimes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm
coelacanth∅:

Thurston's in the zone!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:38pm

I tried the toothpick method on a tree that was growing in an alley-it worked, they were delicious
