A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

sir has a totally different connotation than ma’am though. ma’am is matronly and sir is just sir

@spicy tuna - i am a professional writer and generally our office uses "they" if necessary, but our work doesn't really require pronouns for the most part.
Avatar This Is The Modern World with Trouble Hellraiser 2024 Swag For Life Member 10:04am

from the interwebs: Which has the exact same vowel sound as the two pronunciations of "Ms". So you pronounce Mx exactly the same as Ms, but with a "ks" (or "x") sound on the end, in place of the "z" sound in Ms. From my knowledge, the "short e" məks pronunciation is somewhat more common than the "short i" mɪks pronunciation.

In the USAF we were taught every civilian male is sir, every female is m'am. It was simply as sign of respect, just like we were required to do for officers. It does tend to make others feel old, so is it an ageist practice, or just respect?

@Passaic - I've also lived and voted in Michigan and Illinois. WA's approach is by far the best. The voter guides are so helpful. Each candidate provides a bio including organizations that support them. The proposals are written out and then summarized as to what a pro or con vote means. An opposing rebuttal is provided and then a response to that rebuttal. It's hard to believe that this is provided by the state to voters.
