You liked the Decemberists at twelve, and now you’re embarrassed? All I liked at twelve was top 40
Avatar 3:54am
Scraps:

By the way, I envy the kids of today, how many musical choices they have, for cheap, too. When I was a kid, my choices were bad-to-mediocre radio, and/or spend a chance on an album. That’s it.
Avatar 3:54am
BronwynB:

haha well they were cool at the time but probably not considered too cool anymore! they were my first concert though and they were great. still one of the best shows i ever saw.
Avatar 3:55am
BronwynB:

yes i agree. i never had to deal with only having radio and vinyl, but i do remember not having an mp3 player and before smartphones and spotify in order to listen to some songs i really liked i'd scan the CDs at barnes & noble and listen to snippets
Avatar 3:56am

Just the internet, even. My god, how that changed everything.

i barely remember a time pre-internet but i do remember a time before smartphones and sometimes i really wish they didn't exist, a lot has changed because of them and mostly not in a good way

thanks billy and eric!! and thanks scraps, i had never heard it said out loud before haha
Avatar 5:47am
Scraps:

And YES, scansion is important! Some people really don’t hear it. Like the people who painfully parody Dr Seuss.... argh
Avatar 5:53am
BronwynB:

im trying to keep it in mind for the musical im writing now but i look back at the one i wrote in high school and cringe from all the weird syllable emphasis (among myriad other issues)
Avatar 5:56am

(On the American cover of =Stateless=, the first Lovich album [awesome, by the way], there is a pronunciation guide for Lene Lovich’s name!)
Avatar 5:59am
BronwynB:

the upward build song this song does from "soon it will be morning" to the big "TOUCH MEEEEE" is one of the great builds in all musical theatre, so the fact that this disco version (which came out the year the show premiered on broadway) goes DOWN instead of up at that part is so disorienting it kinda makes me want to puke...but i played it anyway
