Good morning, Jeff. Hello, Listener James, Scraps.

Wonder if anyone has contemplated a show length tribute to The Fall?

The Clarendonians are new to me... that was great

Love that one, @Peter. First heard via The Trojan Story box.

Peter from DE:

What's that Jeopardy category, "Before and After" is it? Sam Rivers of Babylon...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am
Jeff Golick:

Ha. Yeah. There's also a British puzzle that combines clues/answers like that. The New Yorker used to carry it...?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:30am
Peter from DE:

Digging this too. A funny thought: I don't think I've ever heard a bass clarinetist that I haven't liked. Why is that? Is it because it brings up the ghost of Dolphy? Or is it because of the "price of entry" -- that onliy the most committed reed players will invest in a bass clarinet. (That reminds me of a story about Daivd Murray...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am
Jeff Golick:

Huh. I too usually love the bass clarinet I hear, but I've put it down simply to the sound. You might have a point re "price of entry," though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am
Jeff Golick:

Lotta clarinet in this set, I'm realizing.

Peter from DE:

Clarient is a very Jewish instrument. I was once talking about different versions of the Mozart clarinet concerto and I said my favorite was David Shifrin, and the other guy said "that's a good version, it's very klezmer-y" I didn't know him well enough to know if he was joking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am

As opposed to, say, saying things out loud to a police officer.

Do you know Osvald Golijov's Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind? Features David Krakauer and the Kronos Quartet. Haven't listened to it in ages, but I recall it that it makes a lot of noise.
Avatar 11:05am

that would require initiative on my part.

Hi Jeff. I've got a Colin Stetson gig next weekend, billed as Stetson-Fox-Dunn. Have you come accross this trio?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am
Jeff Golick:

@Stanley: I have not. It isn't Trevor Dunn, I'm guessing...?
Avatar 11:18am
glenn:

maybe nora dunn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am

Yes, it is Trevor Dunn and Greg Fox. We're promised a multi-layered wall of sound that is both brutalist and beautiful.
I'm looking forward to it.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am
Jeff Golick:

Huh. Wow, that looks cool, @glenn. Thanks for the tip.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am
Stanley:

@Jeff: it's in the former dissection room of a former medical college in Edinburgh, now an arts and culture 'village'. Sounds a bit creepy but it's quite a good space, complete with 360 degs upstairs balcony.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am
Jeff Golick:

That sounds amazing!

Crispell, Eskelin, and Hemingway all appear on the playlist today. They comprised my afternoon listening yesterday, too.
