Hey, look on the bright side. At least the words aren't colored red or yellow.

RICH MAN’S FRUG!

The dancing is just awesome. One of the best in musical history.

I agree with Scraps.

My eyes agree, Ken.

i'm quite enjoying the page color; but then, i can't pry my mind out of the gutter.
...and i like the gutter, apparently, so here i dwell.

Sweet Charity choreography is all wonderful (Bob Fosse). And the musical is one of the very few that’s very, very downer at the end.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17am
coelacanth∅:

this voice reminds me of Marc Almond

my new favourite program...I am glad you find this stuff for us....

Hey folks. been listening all night but busy!
Avatar 3:18am

Marc Almond!

I prefer Cy Coleman as the artist! (What you had it earlier.) (I always prefer listing the writers.)

I thought Jacques Brel reminded me of the Divine Comedy. Maybe that’s obvious....

ya know, i never thought about it before, but are starship troopers dehumanized assholes like the state troopers in new york & new jersey?

Definitely not Robert Heinlein’s original intent!

Listening to drown out the sound of a distant alarm that it's not letting me sleep. It's 4am here, might as well start the day already with disco sweeney todd

if they'd had 3 lines included with the admission price it would've taken off
Avatar 3:34am
Scraps:

I have a three-cd Sondheim odds-and-sods collection (it’s great) that includes Sweeny Todd’s disco mix. Presumably if Sondheim hated it, it wouldn’t have made it on....

wacky i ching! what next charlie brown?
(...actually i like this, and anything else the i ching - or the oblique strategies for that matter, has to offer)
Avatar 3:41am
BronwynB:

@scraps: the first song i played on the weekly edition of this show was also disco sondheim funnily enough, it was ethel merman's disco version of "some people". sondheim + disco = a suprisingly potent combination!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53am
Ken From Hyde Park:

Congrats for landing on the fall schedule, Bronwyn. Your playlists evidently have the right level of weirdness quotient.

i was just as confused when i came across some nerd trying to pass off space ghost coast to coast transcripts with all the character names changed to pokemon as their own work (and even if it's some tongue-in-cheek thing i don't understand it)
Avatar 4:17am
BronwynB:

i don't understand most of the internet anymore

DL in LA:

I liked the last time you told the Uber story because you used the term "mind-screw" which is great! But it's a story worth retelling. And it's a great thing about WFMU, that people can stumble across it, at least in that region, which has a lot of people. I originally found it on iTunes radio back in the day. I don't know if that still exists.
Avatar 4:44am
BronwynB:

haha ok so i have told that story before. i'll probably forget and tell it again. it was an alarming but also exciting moment in my life

DL in LA:

I was driving for Uber one night, here in Los Angeles, and listening to a WFMU archive as usual. At the train station I picked up the ex-girlfriend of a current WFMU DJ! She took a picture of the WFMU logo on my dashboard screen and sent it to him!

Thank you for the tunes. Couldn't sleep and turned on the radio. It's a good mix.

And another Sondheim thing in my mind: there’s a great Sondheim song called “Next!”, the last song in =Pacific Overtures=, which is probably the overlooked great Sondheim musical IMGDO. (The only one I’ve seen three times, the last time all-Japanese cast)
Avatar 5:34am
BronwynB:

@mark: welcome friend!!
Avatar 5:35am
BronwynB:

@scraps: its funny i was just listening to pacific overtures for the first time recently and was thinking about how there are not one but TWO intense musical theatre songs called NEXT! pacific overtures is great, i love the song with the poisoned tea

um, plunder
Avatar 5:54am
BronwynB:

that one is great too!! i am reading a book by sondheim which is a collection of his lyrics and his thoughts on writing them, advice, etc and it's great but also makes me want to throw out every lyric i've ever written
Avatar 5:57am
Scraps:

I have that, and fortunately I don’t want to write lyrics. ;-)
Avatar 5:59am
Scraps:

Thank you Bronwyn B!
Avatar 5:59am
BronwynB:

haha well im trying to write a musical and its both inspiring and aggravating cause i'll be feeling really proud of some dumb song i wrote and then i read that book (which also includes examples of OTHER people's brilliant lyrics) and im just like "oh shit"
