Every show starts with the ’70s! We’ll rediscover forgotten rockers, revisit unfairly maligned disco beats and replay power-pop favorites. Next: plenty of new releases, occasional live bands and more. Don’t let the nickname confuse you.

August 29, 2018: The 10th Annual Evan "Funk" Davies Show Summertime Disco/Dance Party!

Summertime always reminds me of listening to Ken "Spider" Webb and Ricky Ricardo and, of course the Chief Rocker Frankie Crocker on WBLS. Although, I was reminded by old friend and regular EFD D/DP listener Weems that this summer marks the 40th anniversary of Disco 92 WKTU hitting the New York City airwaves. So while I was always more of a 'BLS guy I'll see if I can summon the spirits of Paco, Rosko, and Carlos DeJesus as well. In any case, when summer rolls around I start itching to play my favorite records from that era (give or take a few years) -- favorites I loved back then, and new favorites that I never heard back in the day. In that spirit, I'm excited to bring you the 10th (!!) annual Evan "Funk" Davies Show Disco and/or Dance Party! It's three hours of classic dance and disco jams from the '70s and early '80s, plus some lost shoulda-been-hits that just might become your new faves. Hook up the disco ball, pull the rug back, and tell the downstairs neighbors to go out to the movies (or just invite them up!) and get ready to get up and boogie. That's right! ======================================= Disco/dance disclaimer! I'm keeping the lines blurry and using "disco" and "dance" as catch-all terms for my own take on fun dance music from the mid-70s to the early '80s, expanding the boundaries (and sound) of the traditional disco era. Don't @ me! Hey! Hustle on over to your favorite social media platform and Like The Evan "Funk" Davies Show on Facebook, then follow me on Twitter (@efd) and/or Instagram (@efdefd) |

I think in the right hands—as this Dr. John song proves—it can be a sleeper hit! “Your Stupid Hipster T-Shirt (Where’s My Money)”

Not too sure if the back became condos, but everything in NYC seems to be a condo.

loving the Disco Dance Party YEAH!
(thought of you when Jack Mello played "Walking on Sunshine" by Rockers Revenge earlier today!)
is it just me, or does "Great Expectations" sound a bit like Mary Jane Girls' "In My House"?!

i believe Monica mentioned on one of her shows that this was the first record to be played at Studio 54 -- which i never went to (i was more of a CBGB and Max's gurl) -- BUT i had to run out and find a copy of "Devil's Gun" immediately :)
