The youtube link has some interesting information about how this song was recorded - there was a certain echo in the mid 80s of actual craft making music worth listening to. And when it pays off, the result can be fantastic.

From the comment by Mark Saunders - ' I can't remember what the other two songs were that were recorded at the same time as Swamp Thing but this was by far the best song of the session and my favorite on the album. Such amazing guitar riffs and incredible mood.' Looking at the past tends to be that way - still, it was interesting to realize that this song was somewhat in reaction to getting lazy and piecing a song together - and it is really a good song for the mid-80s
